The Golden Globes 2025 was broadcast live on CBS on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET. The show was a testament as comedian Nikki Glaser became the first woman to host the event alone. Among the highlights of this 82nd awards season were the special awards received by Viola Davis and Ted Danson.
However, fans hoping to see Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were let down. Even though Reynolds' movie Deadpool & Wolverine was nominated in the Cinematic and Box Office achievement category, the couple chose not to attend the ceremony.
While rumors swirl that their decision to skip the Golden Globes 2025 is tied to their ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni, Page Six has confirmed that this was not the case.
The publication reported that a source close to the couple explained that their absence was planned long before the controversy, and had nothing to do with the lawsuit or any recent issues.
Deadpool & Wolverine was nominated for Golden Globes 2025
Deadpool & Wolverine, the 34th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), was nominated at the Golden Globes 2025. The film, which made $1.338 billion worldwide and became the highest-earning R-rated movie ever, was nominated in the "Cinematic and Box Office Achievement" category.
This nomination celebrated its outstanding financial success and its impact on audiences worldwide. Directed by Shawn Levy, the movie brings together Deadpool and Wolverine, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, in a first-of-its-kind crossover. However, both actors did not attend the Golden Globes 2025.
The film combines Deadpool’s signature funny and edgy style with the multiverse concept from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The movie also grabbed attention for its unique story, where Deadpool joins forces with a version of Wolverine from another universe to take on the Time Variance Authority.
This storyline pays homage to the older Marvel movies from Fox, while fitting into the MCU.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively vs Justin Baldoni: What is the lawsuit about?
As per Page Six, the lawsuit filed by Lively is about claims of se*ual harassment and defamation by Baldoni. Blake Lively accused her It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni, of creating a toxic environment on set. She claimed Baldoni often made inappropriate sex-related remarks during production, including discussions about his past "p*rn addiction."
The publication also highlighted that Lively claimed that Baldoni showed explicit pictures and videos, which made the cast and crew feel uneasy. Her legal documents state that this led to a meeting where Baldoni was told to stop behaving this way. According to her legal filings, these actions led to an "all-hands" meeting where Baldoni was warned to stop such behavior.
Besides the harassment accusations, Lively claimed that Baldoni hired a crisis manager to run a negative campaign against her on social media, supposedly to "destroy" her reputation. The actress has reportedly submitted text messages as evidence, including one where a crisis manager reportedly discussed the intent to “bury anyone” who opposed Baldoni’s narrative.
In response, Baldoni has strongly denied all the claims through his lawyer, calling them "intentionally salacious" and a calculated attempt to harm his reputation, as reported by Page Six.
He argued that the accusations are based on misunderstandings of public interviews and events, where, according to him, Lively's own actions contributed to the controversies surrounding the film's campaign.
Further escalating the legal battle, Baldoni filed a $250 million libel lawsuit against The New York Times for what he described as defamatory reporting about the case.
