Joker: Folie à Deux finally hit theatres on October 4, 2024, five years after the first film. The film focuses on Arthur Fleck, who is now kept in Arkham, as he tries to prove that he developed the Joker persona to suppress his trauma. However, at the same time, the assistant DA, Harvey Dent, is also gunning for him to get the death penalty.

Joker: Folie à Deux dives a bit deeper into the Batman mythos and also introduces Harvey Dent, played by Harry Lawtey alongside Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn. However, just like the other Batman-adjacent characters in the film, Todd Phillips adds a twist to the character.

In the comics, Harvey Dent famously becomes the villain Two-Face after getting half of his face burned in a freak attack. However, Joker: Folie à Deux takes a different direction and never turns Harvey Dent into the iconic villain from the comics.

In Joker: Folie à Deux, Harvey Dent is played by Harry Lawtey. In the film, he guns for Arthur Fleck to receive the death penalty as he believes that Arthur is just putting on the Joker persona and is actually in control of his actions. However, that's where the character's role ends because he is just there to connect the film to the wider Batman mythos.

Throughout the film, Harvey Dent can be seen trying to make his case against Arthur Fleck during the courtroom sequences. While Harvey eventually ends up winning the case, with Fleck receiving the death penalty, a bomb goes off at the courthouse, leaving everyone massively injured.

Joker: Folie à Deux does show viewers the injuries that Harvey has faced due to the explosion, but his face isn't massively disfigured like it is in the comics. Rather, he has minor blemishes on his face. So, the film never shows Harvey's transformation into Two-Face.

This is a huge departure from the source material as half of Harvey's face gets massively burned off in a freak criminal attack.

How does Harvey Dent become Two-Face in the comics?

In the comics, Harvey Dent was the district attorney of Gotham, who made it his life goal to take down the mob. He was also a close ally of Batman and constantly helped him take down criminals and make sure they faced justice for their crimes. However, this also led to Harvey becoming a massive target for the criminals in the city.

In a freak crime, Harvey Dent then had half of his face burned off by the mob when they threw acid on him. Not being able to take the trauma of the attack, Harvey then went on to become the villain known as Two-Face. This villain then became one of the deadliest and most insane individuals in Batman's rogues' gallery.
