The Killer’s Game, starring Dave Bautista in the lead role, is currently playing in theaters. Directed by J. J. Perry, this action comedy was released in the United States on September 13, 2024. The film is based on the 1997 novel of the same name by Jay Bonansinga.
Bautista plays a veteran assassin named Joe Flood in the film. The official synopsis of the film reads:
“In the new action-comedy The Killer’s Game, when top hitman Joe Flood (Dave Bautista) is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he decides to take matters into his own hands – by taking a hit out on himself.”
It continues:
“But when the very hitmen he hired also target his ex-girlfriend (Sofia Boutella), he must fend off an army of assassin colleagues and win back the love of his life before it’s too late.”
The film does not have a post-credits scene. Although a post-credits scene often suggests a sequel, the absence of one does not preclude The Killer’s Game from becoming a franchise.

The Killer’s Game does not have a post-credits scene
There are no mid-credits or post-credits scenes following the film. Usually, such scenes are used to hint at a sequel or expand a franchise, but this is not the case with Bautista’s action film.
However, the film has enough character and plot elements to warrant a sequel. For instance, by the end of the film, it is clear that Joe has no intention of retiring from the “game” yet. Further, Zvi has big plans for him. Thus, Joe might as well be back in business after the events portrayed in this film, and Joe’s next adventures could be the subject of a sequel.
Moreover, there are several elements associated with the lives of professional killers that are alluded to but not highlighted in the film. A sequel could delve deeper into the same.
Thus, even though the film does not have a post-credits scene, Joe and company might be back in a sequel. Whether a sequel ultimately gets made depends on the box office performance of The Killer’s Game.

The plot of The Killer’s Game
Towards the beginning of the film, Joe meets Maize (Sofia Boutella) and falls in love with her. As a veteran assassin, he decides to quit the “game.” Meanwhile, his health starts showing signs of a serious illness, showing symptoms like headaches and double vision.
Joe visits the doctor, who runs several tests. It is revealed that he is suffering from a terminal illness that will kill him in three months.
Joe, in a bid to claim his life insurance, issues a contract on his own life through Marianna (Pom Klementieff). Ironically, right after this move, Joe is informed by his doctor that the previous diagnosis was the result of a labeling error in the lab. Joe is completely fine, and the terminal illness belongs to someone else.
Joe tries to call the contract off, but it is too late. Moreover, Marianna wants him dead. As a result, Joe has to team up with Zvi (Ben Kingsley) and kill all the assassins that come his way.
Matters escalate when Maize is kidnapped. Joe fights his way to her and brings her back to safety. Marianna is killed by Zvi, and Joe and Maize marry in the end. However, Joe has no intention of retiring just yet.
