Canyon is an upcoming action thriller film in which Don Cheadle is cast to play the role of a part-time jazz musician and full-time serial killer. As per Deadline, American filmmaker Colin Tilley is set to direct the movie, with production under the banner of Alcon Entertainment.
Screenwriter Derek Kolstad, who has written the John Wick and Nobody franchise, is writing the screenplay for Canyon, while also serving as one of its producers. Cheadle will portray Canyon, a disguised assassinator tasked to protect a young siren stuck in a deadly conflict between criminal families.
The events of the entire movie will take place in a single night. Canyon is produced by John Davis and Jeremy Stein from Davis Entertainment, along with Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Born on November 29, 1964, in Kansas City, Missouri, Cheadle is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. During the late 1980s and 1990s, Cheadle started his career playing supporting roles in movies including Hamburger Hill (1987), Colors (1988), and Boogie Nights (1997) and went on to collaborate with filmmaker Steven Soderbergh in movies like Out of Sight (1998), Traffic (2000), and the popular The Ocean's Trilogy (2001-2007).
Cheadle was nominated for an Oscar in 2004 for Best Actor in the movie Hotel Rwanda. He also won two Golden Globes for The Rat Pack in 1999 and House of Lies in 2013, respectively. He also went on to win two Grammys for Miles Ahead in 2016 and Carry On: Reflections for a New Generation from John Lewis in 2022, respectively.
Cheadle received worldwide attention, especially from younger audiences, when he debuted as War Machine/James Rhodes in Iron Man 2 (2010). Nobody is an action thriller movie directed by Ilya Naishuller, which is based on a script written by Derek Kolstad. The movie was released after it was theatrically released on March 26, 2021. The story revolves around a retired assassin forced to return to an earlier life after his family becomes the target of a vindictive mafia boss.
With a $16 million budget, the movie grosed over $57 million worldwide. Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto is directing the sequel Nobody 2, scheduled to be released theatrically on August 15, 2025. Writer Derek Kolstad is reprising his role to write the script in collaboration with Aaron Rabin, Bob, Odenkirk, and Umair Aleem.
