Selena Gomez is once again back in the news, with the spotlight being on her personal life this time. The singer and actress has been one of the biggest and most prominent figures in Hollywood for over two decades now, and it seems that everything she does or says doesn't fail to enter the radar of the mainstream media.
As a vocal advocate of many issues, including mental health, Selena Gomez has always given many interviews, and things haven't been easy in all of them. But there was one interview that infuriated the pop star beyond measure, to the point where she had an outburst and compared the feeling to the kind she felt while working for The Wizards of Waverly Place as a child star.
This interview and its reaction were featured in Apple TV+'s My Mind & Me, which premiered in 2022. In the interview during a promotional tour for her 2019 single Lose You to Love Me throughout Europe, an unidentified correspondent is seen asking questions to Gomez, who answers with a lot of enthusiasm but is visibly frustrated by the end of the interview.
Gomez is seen telling the interviewer at the end of the interview:
"Wow, thank you. Appreciate it,...Felt like you really understood."
She goes on to enter a room where members of her team are present, and adds with visible annoyance:
"Can I sit, please? F---in' dumbest thing ever. I'm done. I can't do that anymore,"
She went on to expand on how the questions from this journalist took her back to the headspace that she had experienced while working on Wizards of Waverly Place.
"Do you know how cheap it makes me feel?"- When Selena Gomez slammed an interviewer for their behavior
While the identity of this interviewer was never revealed, the demeanor of this person was enough to get the better of Selena Gomez leading to an angry outburst. In the following scene after she entered the room, Gomez elaborated on what made her feel so disturbed.
She explained angrily that the interview and its manner made her feel like a product, which also consequently, made her feel like she was back in the sets of Wizards of Waverly Place, an experience she had spoken about multiple times.
Selena Gomez said:
"Do you know how cheap it makes me feel? She's asking me questions, like, good ones, and then she didn't even pay attention to what I was saying. I don't want to do that ever again. I feel like a product. It was making me angry. You know what it is? It made me feel like Disney. I just spent years of my life trying to not be that. And I f---ing look like a witch with the outfit, doing it all with the wand again."
In the same documentary, it was revealed that Gomez had faced another journalist who had frustrated her. But this particular instance during the promotional tour of Lose You to Love Me saw an outburst from Gomez that is quite uncharacteristic of her.
The documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, available for streaming on Apple TV+, chronicles the life and thoughts of the pop star and actress in a way that's very insightful and unique.
