Long before Henry Cavill took on the role of a Wolverine variant, fans had been rooting for him to join the X-Men universe. Known for his role as Superman in the DCEU, Cavill has always been a favorite among fans to play Wolverine, reportedly due to his commanding screen presence and acting versatility.

Rumors of Cavill stepping into the Wolverine role started swirling as early as 2020, with talks that he might appear in Captain Marvel 2. Although these rumors were eventually disproved, the buzz around Cavill as Wolverine did not die down.

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Cavill’s cameo, though brief, was a major nod to Wolverine's rich history. Marvel Studios’ decision to include him shows their strategy of incorporating popular fan theories into their films.

In the movie, Ryan Reynolds' character— Deadpool— tries to find a replacement for Wolverine within his universe. This is when Henry Cavill makes a cameo as a distinctive Wolverine variant.

He is depicted riding a rugged motorcycle and confidently chomping on a cigar, capturing the essence of the Wolverine character with a tough, no-nonsense demeanor. The portrayal is one of several appearances by different Wolverine variants in the sequence.

The movie has shattered box office expectations, amassing over $200 million in North America and $440 million globally on its opening weekend, according to Forbes. The debut surpasses early projections which anticipated around $150 million domestically and $360 million worldwide.

The film's success has eclipsed the opening figures of both Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), setting it on a trajectory to outperform the total worldwide earnings of its predecessors— approximately $783 million and $786 million respectively.

If Deadpool & Wolverine maintains this momentum, it is poised to reach a final global tally between $1.32 billion and $1.45 billion, potentially surpassing $1.5 billion, thereby exceeding the combined gross of the earlier Deadpool films.
