Netflix has officially announced a documentary on Vince McMahon, the former WWE owner. Titled Mr. McMahon, the documentary is set to explore his rise and fall within the professional wrestling world.

Scheduled for release on September 25, 2024, the series promises an in-depth look at the controversial figure’s career and the scandals that have shadowed his legacy, including the current lawsuit involving Janel Grant.

Despite the comprehensive nature of the Mr. McMahon documentary which aims to cover all facets of Vince McMahon's storied career, Janel Grant, who is a key figure in one of the most notable controversies associated with McMahon, was not interviewed.

The confirmation comes from Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, who reported on the absence of Grant’s perspective in the series.

On August 29, 2024, Thurston tweeted a statement from a spokesperson for Janel Grant:

"Neither Janel Grant nor her representatives were interviewed for the 'Mr. McMahon' Netflix documentary."

This tweet followed the official announcement of the documentary and showed the exclusion of any direct input from Grant whose lawsuit has ignited substantial interest and speculation about the series’ content.

The decision to not include an interview with Grant or her legal team may raise questions about the documentary's coverage of the lawsuit and the depths it will explore regarding McMahon's controversies.

In January 2024, Janel Grant filed a major lawsuit against former WWE chairman Vince McMahon which also implicated WWE and its former executive John Laurinaitis. The lawsuit was lodged in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut where Grant detailed accusations of s*xual harassment, s*x trafficking, and coercion during her employment at WWE from 2019 to 2022.

Janel Grant's legal claims paint a grim picture of her time at WWE's global headquarters where she worked within the legal and talent departments. According to the allegations as reported by The Wall Street Journal, McMahon used his powerful position to engage in inappropriate s*xual conduct which forced Grant into unwanted s*xual relationships with other wrestlers as part of what she describes as a coercive environment.

These claims suggest that McMahon leveraged his authority to manipulate her into these relationships and facilitated a workplace that normalized such exploitations.

The lawsuit outlines several instances where McMahon allegedly subjected Grant to "acts of extreme cruelty and degradation" reportedly, causing her to experience severe psychological distress. One of the more harrowing allegations include McMahon sending explicit images of Grant to other individuals without her consent further exemplifying the claims of s*x trafficking, according to detailed court documents.

The lawsuit details incidents where Vince McMahon orchestrated environments and situations that left Grant feeling powerless and objectified, contributing to a hostile work environment which is corroborated by further investigations.

Grant's attorneys were led by Ann Callis who has clearly stated that the lawsuit's timing aligns with a broader federal investigation into McMahon's conduct, indicating the severity and potential ramifications of the allegations. As the legal proceedings gain momentum, WWE and its parent company TKO Group Holdings have publicly acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations.

The fallout from the lawsuit has already had considerable consequences for Vince McMahon, who resigned from his positions within WWE and TKO Group Holdings, shortly after the allegations became public.

As detailed in a comprehensive report by The New York Times, the step back from corporate responsibilities marks a major downturn in McMahon's career which is overshadowed by the legal and public relations challenges stemming from the lawsuit.

The documentary about Vince McMahon titled Mr. McMahon, was officially announced by Netflix during the third quarter of 2020 WWE financials call and it is scheduled for release on September 25, 2024, only on the particular streaming site.

The documentary is produced under the expertise of Chris Smith, known for his work on Tiger King, and Bill Simmons who is a prominent sports journalist and podcast host. The documentary is a collaborative effort between Netflix and WWE.
