Recently, a rumor has been circulating online that actor Kevin Hart has closed all his restaurants following Diddy's arrest. On Saturday, September 21, 2024, X user @Robert_Cr59 uploaded a post with a photo of Kevin Hart. The caption read,
“Kevin Hart closed all his restaurants after finding about Diddy's arrest. Do you think he’s involved?”
The post had already garnered 11.2M views, 6.6K reshare, 51K reactions and 4.3K comments as of now.
However, the post is not true. Nevertheless, Hart did close all his restaurants, but that happened on September 10 due to unspecified reasons and Diddy was arrested on September 16.
Notably, the rumor started when Kevin Hart's fast-food chain Hart House closed all of its locations, just two years after it launched but it did not provide a reason for its closure. Social media users then started to speculate that it may have anything to do with Diddy's arrest.
Kevin Hart did close all his restaurants but that happened before Diddy’s arrest
On September 21, an X user uploaded a post on the platform alleging that the actor closed all his restaurants following Diddy’s arrest. The user even wondered if Hart was involved in Diddy’s “freak offs”, which recently came into the limelight.
However, the platform has already fact-checked the post and marked it as “factually incorrect.” It even directed the viewers to two websites which stated the same. One of the websites, MSN, further reported that Hart closed his eateries six days before Diddy’s arrest on September 16.
Prior to the launch of the plant-based restaurant business, Hart stated to The Hollywood Reporter in August 2022 that he founded Hart House in an effort to “give people a plant-based option” since he felt there were not enough vegan options available in the fast food industry.
It is worth noting that plant-based burgers, salads, tater tots, milkshakes, and "chicken" sandwiches and nuggets were among the items on the menu.
This happened after the comedian and actor disclosed to The Hollywood Reporter in 2020 that he had switched to a plant-based diet. He said,
“If I can give people a place to have the option that’s placed smack dab in the middle of where your McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, and Burger King [are], people may see a Hart House and say, ‘I’m going to go plant-based today."
However, for an undisclosed cause, the eatery is closing. On Wednesday, September 11, Hart's restaurant shared the same news on Instagram.
"To our team, guests, and community, who helped make the change we all craved. A Hartfelt goodbye for now as we start a new chapter.”
Following this, CEO Andy Hooper told Eater LA,
“The response to the product has been incredible, and we thank our committed team, our customers, and our community partners for helping make the change we all craved, and for their unwavering support of Hart House,”
When Kevin Hart's Hart House first opened the eateries, it was met with great support and praise. When Keith Lee, the renowned TikTok culinary critic, visited Hart House in 2023, he left with glowing reviews.
He further praised the place for being reasonably priced, with combos and sandwiches priced under $15. He also described the sandwich he sampled as "amazing."
The strategy is now being referred to as "ambitious" by some analysts after the corporation closed all of its sites.
The Food Institute claimed that Hart House had to contend with an oversaturated market as well as an increase in California's minimum wage from $15.50 to $20. Owner of Globemonitor Market Research Agency, Bassem Mostafa, told The Food Institute on September 17,
“Consumers may have viewed Hart House as more of a novelty than a serious player in the fast-food industry.”
Hence, it is safe to say that Kevin Hart did not close his restaurants following Diddy's arrest. However, whether or not he is involved with Diddy is still unverified. Additionally, he has not reacted to such claims yet.
