Ti West's MaXXXine, the highly anticipated third entry in his X film series premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre, Los Angeles on June 24, 2024. After having a successful premiere, the film is scheduled for a theatrical release by A24 on July 5, 2024. According to recent reports, the film might also see a streaming release at some point, presumably on Max.

Ever since news of MaXXXine's theatrical release came to the forefront, audiences have been wondering if the movie contains an end-credit scene, as movie X did. Viewers will be disappointed to know that the upcoming film does not contain a post-credit scene. This information has left many fans of the slasher franchise puzzled as they have started questioning the possibility of the upcoming films in the franchise.

MaXXXine does not have an end-credit scene

Months before the trailer for MaXXXine was dropped, several rumors suggested that the film would have an end-credits scene. However, those rumors were refuted by others that claimed that the end credit scenes were never filmed. When the movie finally premiered on June 24, 2024, it was clear that it did not contain a post-credit scene.

The absence of an end-credit scene from the movie has got some people worried as they wonder about the future of the X series. The fear arises due to comments previously made by Ti West in which he stated that the future of a fourth film in the franchise would depend upon the success of the third film.

Appearing for a conversation on the YouTube channel What’s Under the Bed when asked about the future of the movies in the X series, West said:

"There is this one weird idea that I have that is kind of… if I explained it, it would make sense. But we’ll see what happens. Let’s get this movie done first, see if people like it. Then we’ll go from there.”

Additionally, In both X and Pearl, the previous installments of the franchise, end credit scenes were included, even if those were for a brief period. The decision to not include one this time is indeed a shocker for the audience who are worried about the future of the movie.

Audience's reception towards the movie

Although MaXXXine has received a limited release, the movie has garnered significant criticism from critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has received a 77% approval rating from approximately 100 critics. From the audience, it has received a slightly higher rating at 82%.

Jeffrey M. Anderson from Common Sense Media writes:

"The finale of a hugely effective trilogy, this frisky, fun slasher movie has extreme gore but also plenty of small gifts for cinephiles and a memorable, close-to-iconic main character."

DarkSkyLady from Nerdist writes:

"MaXXXine forfeits it all, devolving into a messy puddle of obscurity, where whatever themes viewers say the movie explores is more of a wish than reality. The further you get from the theater, the less you’ll like or want to remember this film."

On Metacritic, the film has received a Metascore of 67 from the critics which is considered generally favorable.
