Fast & Furious 10, officially called Fast X, hit theaters in May 2023, bringing Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto's action-packed blockbuster series to a near close. But while it's set to be the last chapter in the series and had the tagline "The Last Ride," Fast X will not be the last movie of the Fast & Furious franchise. Instead, it's a part of a two-film grand finale of the 23-year-old franchise.

An 11th installment to the Fast & Furious film series, which will be called Fast X: Part 2, is slated for a summer 2026 release, a year late after it was initially announced to come out in April 2025 because of delays.

Talking about making the film series finale a two-part series, Vin Diesel said during a 2021 F9 press event:

"As you know, we get to travel to all these wonderful places. And they're part of the reason why Fast 10 has to be broken into two different movies—it's because there's so much ground to cover. And there's so many places in so many locations in the world that we have to visit."

While Fast & Furious fans are yet to wait two years before the last movie in the franchise, Fast X: Part 2, will hit theaters, it's anticipated to provide worthy conclusions to the mysteries left unsolved by Fast X.

What to expect in Fast X: Part 2?

Giving hints as to what fans can expect from the final movie of the franchise, Leterrier told Entertainment Weekly in 2023:

"As a fan, you will love the ending and you will cry. Part 2 is going to be a sad one. It's going to be beautiful, and I'm so happy I'm doing it."

Fast X's ending was practically set up to give viewers some idea of what the upcoming film is all about. Several of the characters' fates are up in the air.

For one, Dom and his son, Brian, are trapped at the bottom of a dam with bombs planted everywhere, a tidal wave about to hit and no obvious form of escape. While it's unlikely that both characters will be killed off before the franchise ends, the upcoming film is anticipated to work out how they will survive.

Meanwhile, Ramsey, Tej, Roman and Han, aboard a plane and on their way to Dom's aid, were met with a rocket that blew up their plane's engine.

It's unsure if any of them will make it out alive, but the final shot of them in the flame reveals that there are cars on board. If any of them lives, Fast X: Part 2 is likely to feature them driving off the plane to safety in one of those cars.

Away from any potential deaths, the upcoming Fast movie is also anticipated to bring back some of the loved characters, like Gal Gadot's Gisele, who was presumed dead in Fast & Furious 6.

As for the actual ending of the last movie of the franchise, it will only remain a guessing game until the second part of the finale comes out two years from now.

When is Fast X: Part 2 coming to cinemas?

Fans can expect Fast X: Part 2 in theaters in the summer of 2026, a year later than planned.

It was initially announced to come out in April 2025, two years after the F10 was released, but production was delayed because of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, according to Leterrier. But filming is already scheduled to start later this year, the director said to Collider in a May 2024 interview:

"It's happening. It's happening very, very soon. I'm able to shoot a little horror movie this summer. I'm finishing my horror movie on September 15th, and I start Fast on September 16th."

While the delay is somewhat of a bummer for fans who have been eagerly awaiting the film, the new release window will somehow give the film series a sentimental sendoff. The first Fast & Furious film came out June 2001, so a 2026 release of its 11th installment will mark the franchise' 25th anniversary.

The production could give the Fast film series a storybook ending by releasing the last film on the same day the first one came out.
