Never Let Go was released on September 20, 2024, and distributed by Lionsgate Films. Directed by Alexandre Aja, the horror-thriller stars Halle Berry alongside Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins.
The movie is not based on a true story. The horror scenes in this movie were put together by writers Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby. Even though it has a scary plot and a creepy atmosphere, the movie is just a work of fiction.
The film centers on a mother and her twin sons, who are imprisoned in their house under the will of a sinister entity. To survive, they rely on their physical link and family ties. The family's unity starts to break as one of the lads starts questioning the reality of the evil presence, which sets off a horrific fight for survival against the supernatural being.
The official synopsis of the movie includes:
"In this new psychological thriller/horror, as an Evil takes over the world beyond their front doorstep, the only protection for a mother, played by Academy Award® winner Halle Berry (Actress in a Leading Role, 2001 -- Monster's Ball), and her twin sons is their house and their family's protective bond."
It continues:
"Needing to stay connected at all times -- even tethering themselves with ropes -- they cling to one another, urging each other to never let go. But when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, the ties that bind them together are severed, triggering a terrifying fight for survival.
The storyline of Never Let Go
In the movie Never Let Go, Halle Berry plays a mother who lives alone with her two twin sons after a supposed apocalypse. They think that something evil that can change its form is hiding in the forest near their house.
The object only shows itself to the mother, who tells her kids they have to stay tied to the house whenever they leave its safe boundaries. The family’s belief in this evil force is central to their survival, but as the story progresses, one of the sons, Nolan, begins to question whether the entity is real.
Nolan's skepticism makes things difficult between him and his brother Sam, who still believes everything their mother told them. This divide makes it impossible for them to live, especially when they run out of food and have to take drastic steps to stay alive.
When Nolan locks his mother outside the protective house and forces her to meet the supposed evil entity, she dies, which is the turning point. As the story goes on, it becomes clear that they are not alone; the world hasn't ended outside their home, and the evil presence may only be in their minds.
