Stelana Kliris’ Find Me Falling: Review
Featuring plenty of laughs, a picturesque setup, and some impressive actors, Find Me Falling takes viewers to Cyprus, where the protagonist decides to go on vacation. This happens after rockstar John Allman's latest album fails to impress his fans. As a result, Allman struggles to come to terms with his dwindling career.
To get away from the bustle, he heads to the Mediterranean paradise, which initially does not seem to work out for him. Allman relocates to a remote shack in a bid to escape his past. He is initially seen reminiscing over his song, titled Girl on the Beach, which he dedicated to a past lover.
However, he soon discovers that his remote shack is a popular ‘suicide spot’ for the locals and he even builds a fence to keep the trespassers away. The movie features a range of hilarious cameos, including those from Tony Demtriou and Lea Maleni. Tony plays a police captain named Manoli, while Lea portrays the role of a local grocer, Koula.
In a huge twist of fate, it turns out that Koula is the daughter of Sia, Allman’s former lover who was the inspiration behind his hit song, Girl on the Beach.
What follows is a predictable, yet entertaining plot, as it brings together a range of hilarious aspects. Allman’s pessimism and broken heart are combined with the physical comedy that a number of cameos offer, as he eventually discovers Sia once again and the two fall in love.
Meanwhile, Allman convinces a man to avoid suicide and attempts to find inspiration in his surroundings. The beautiful destination, Cyprus, has also been portrayed extremely positively in Find Me Falling, through its culture, nightlife, and picturesque locations and it is evident right from the start of the movie.
Find Me Falling is a heartwarming comedy that eventually shows the redemption of John Allman, as he finds the passion to create stellar music again. It may not be the best rom-com of recent years, but is certainly fit for a one-time watch, especially considering the montage of cameos that it offers.
Moreover, the movie's shooting locations mean that it is a bonafide treat to the eyes, and combines a familiar rockstar-based pessimism with love and hope, as Allman is shown undergoing a huge transformation. The character in the end realizes that he has no need to delve on past failures, and instead, he must live his life to the fullest.
Find Me Falling is currently available to watch on Netflix.
