Marvel Studios returned to Comic-Con after 2 years with the Doctor Victor Von Doom surprise, and they did not disappoint.

In July 2022, Avengers 5 and 6 were first announced, with the film titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Shang-Chi Director Destin Daniel Cretton was announced to be directing this movie, and since then, a lot has unfolded, with Jonathan Majors getting wrapped up in a lawsuit and getting fired from Disney, Destin Daniel Cretton walking away from directing Avengers 5. Additionally, the recent Marvel Studios' multiverse projects have also failed to hit the mark with the fans.

However, on July 27, 2024, at SDCC Hall H, Marvel Studios Kevin Feige officially announced the directors for the upcoming Avengers movies and made casting announcements.

The new films will now be directed by the Russo brothers. The first movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is slated to release in May 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027.

At the Comicon, Robert Downey Jr also revealed his new avatar after taking off his mask and telling the audience:

“New mask ~ same task. What can I tell you? I like playing complicated characters.”

Robert Downey Jr. will star as Doctor Victor Von Doom in the upcoming Avenger films. Doctor Doom, the rival of the Fantastic Four, is a complex character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirbborn. After Doom's face got disfigured in a failed time trial attempt, he forged a mask for himself.

Although he is considered a supervillain because he seeks immense power, Doom doesn’t have evil intentions. His key weapon is his superhuman intellect, and after Doctor Strange, Doom was the potential candidate for Sorcerer Supreme.
