Calista Ford, actress and wife of Harrison Ford, was recently interviewed by The Sunday Times. During the interview, she stated that she thought her husband was a "lascivious old man" when they first met in 2002.
In the interview, the Ally McBeal actress recalled the first time she met Harrison Ford at the 2002 Golden Globes Award. She said that she was sitting next to co-star Vonda Shepherd when Ford introduced himself to her. When asked if she was surprised when "Han Solo" talked to her for the first time, Flockhart answered that she had never seen Star Wars before.
"I was aware of who Harrison Ford was! But I didn't think 'Oh, this is Indiana Jones.' It was more along the lines of, 'This is some lascivious old man and what is he doing at our table?' I was being a smarta**," the 59-year-old said.
After meeting in 2002, Ford and Flockhart dated for 8 years until they got married.
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart made their first public appearance at the Venice Festival
Harrison Ford first met Calista Flockhart at the Golden Globe Awards in 2002, when neither was looking for love. At the time, Ford was still married to Melissa Mathison, his second wife, although Mathison had already filed for a legal separation a year ago. Ford was 60 then, and Flockhart, 22 years younger than him, was 38.
Following their first meeting, Ford invited Calista to his place for dinner and drinks. It was their first date, to which Flockhart had brought her co-star James Marsden as a third wheel.
On September 1 of the same year, Harrison Ford made his first public appearance with Flockhart at the 59th Venice Film Festival. In the coming years, Ford also bonded with Calista's adopted son, Liam Flockhart, over their shared love for flying.
Throughout their dating years, the couple made several public appearances together, including attending the 2003 2B Free Fashion show in L.A., enjoying a family day out in a pumpkin patch with Liam in 2007, and serving meals at the L.A. Mission and the Anna Douglas Center the same year.
In 2009, Ford proposed to Calista on Valentine's Day while the couple was away on a family vacation with Liam, to which she said yes. The couple got married on June 15, 2010, in New Mexico, where Ford was shooting for Cowboys and Aliens. Governor Bill Richardson officiated the wedding at the Governor's Mansion in Santa Fe.
Harrison Ford shares his love for flying with Flockhart
Following the wedding, Ford and Flockhart have been raising Liam Flockhart together. The three also enjoy flying together. The Indiana Jones star, in a 2003 interview with PEOPLE, said:
"Liam loves to fly, Calista likes the process, she likes what she sees from the air, she likes seeing me happy. I think a lot of it has to do with that she loves to see me doing something that I love."
In another interview with Reader's Digest, Harrison Ford confessed how he believed Flockhart to be "the best [mother] in the world."
"She's a mother by choice - she adopted Liam before we met, as a single parent, which is an awesome responsibility to take. She's devoted herself to Liam and has done a really wonderful job raising him. I'm happy to now have a part of the job," he said.
When Liam was ready to start college in 2020, Ford flew him there in his private plane.
In January 2023, at the L.A. premiere of his recent Apple TV+ series, Shrinking, Ford even expressed his desire to work with Flockhart on-screen, saying:
"We'd love to find one we could do together. But yeah, haven't found one yet."
The Star Wars legend went on to explain how his wife was just returning to acting again after having devoted 20 years to raising Liam and was "enjoying going back to work."
Flockhart's most recent appearance on the screen has been as Lee Radziwill in the second season of Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, which aired on TV on January 31, 2024.
