Harry Potter is an orphan who was raised by the Dursley family. He thinks that a car accident killed his parents. Hagrid comes to see him on his 11th birthday. He tells Harry he is a wizard, and Hogwarts has accepted him.

Hagrid brings Harry to Diagon Alley to get things for school. It comes to Harry's attention that Voldemort killed his parents. Voldemort tried to kill Harry but failed. He left a scar on Harry that looks like lightning.

He meets Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger at Hogwarts. He also meets Draco Malfoy, who doesn't like Ron. The students are split up into four groups or houses. The house of Gryffindor is home to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Doctor Who is put in Slytherin. Harry is put in charge of finding the Gryffindor Quidditch team's Seeker. During the game, he flies really well.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione find Fluffy, a dog with three heads, who is keeping a secret. It turns out that Fluffy is watching over the Philosopher's Stone. Harry thinks that Snape is attempting to steal the stone. The three people learn about Nicholas Flamel, who made the stone. They also learn that Voldemort wants the stone to get stronger again.

Dumbledore elucidates that the love of Harry's mother provided him protection. The Philosopher's Stone has been obliterated. During the end-of-term banquet, Gryffindor secures the House Cup. Harry returns to the Dursleys, content to have discovered a genuine home at Hogwarts.
