Ghost Rider star Nicolas Cage's ex, Christina Fulton, recently opened up about the arrest of her and Cage's son Weston Coppola Cage. Weston was arrested on Wednesday, July 10, after turning himself in to the police following an April 28 incident where he allegedly got into a verbal and physical altercation with his mother. In a statement to People, Fulton revealed that her son's friends had contacted her for help.
According to Fulton, Weston was undergoing a mental health crisis on April 28. Her attempts to help him got her "brutally assaulted," leaving her with injuries. Weston, on the other hand, was released on the same day with the help of a $150,000 bond.
"When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage," she told the publication.
"I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries"— Nicolas Cage's ex Christina Fulton on being attacked by her son
On April 28, Nicolas Cage's son, Weston Coppola Cage, allegedly entered into a verbal confrontation with his mother, Christina Fulton. As per TMZ, the 33-year-old was at his mother's Los Angeles residence when the alleged verbal altercation turned physical, and he allegedly assaulted his mother.
Weston fled the location, and emergency services arrived at the scene, but nobody was taken to the hospital. Sources close to the actress revealed that she had called over her and Nicolas Cage's oldest son to console him when he was going through a mental health moment before things got ugly. At the time, pictures circulating on social media showed Fulton's face with visible bruising.
In June, the district attorney's office issued an arrest warrant and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon against Weston. On Thursday, June 11, Weston Coppola Cage turned himself in at the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th division station. He was arrested directly in correlation with the April 28 incident.
"During the incident, Cage punched two victims multiple times, causing injury. LAPD responded, and after meeting with all parties, a police report was completed," Law enforcement told People magazine.
Nicolas Cage's son was arrested and booked at 7.57 am. However, he was released from custody at 9.50 am following a $150,000 bond. On Thursday, June 11, Nicolas Cage's ex, Christina Fulton, issued a statement to People magazine regarding the April 28 incident.
The actress narrated that she had received messages regarding her son's "deteriorating mental state" from his best friends at around 5.30 pm on April 28. They urged her to come help, and when she arrived, Weston was already in a "manic rage."
"Within minutes, I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries," she said.
The actress further revealed that despite her desperate pleas to the responding police officers, law enforcement officials rejected her request to detain Weston for a "mental-health evaluation."
"As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned about Weston’s ongoing mental-health crisis. It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs," she said.
Earlier in May, Christina Fulton gave a statement to People magazine, claiming that no argument between her and Weston had occurred on the day. The actress said that his son's friends contacted her for assistance during a mental health crisis and that she acted swiftly to ensure his safety.
"Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience. I have always supported helping my son with his mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs," Fulton told the publication in May.
33-year-old Weston Coppola Cage is the oldest of Nicolas Cage's three children. Weston was born to Cage and ex-girlfriend Christina Fulton in 1990. The musician and actor has appeared in various projects like 2005's Lord of War alongside his father and, most recently, 2024's The Night They Came Home and Boneyard.
