Chris Evans portrayed Johnny Storm in the first two 'Fantastic Four' movies

Among the plethora of cameos sprinkled across the recently released Deadpool & Wolverine movie, Chris Evans' appearance as the Human Torch lit up theaters across the world. Moviegoers initially thought that Evans was reprising his more famous role of Captain America, only to be stunned by the realization that the actor was playing Johnny Storm from the early 2000s Fantastic Four movies.

Chris Evans starred as the iconic Human Torch a.k.a Johnny Storm in 20th Century Fox's 2005 Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Johnny is the younger brother of fellow Fantastic Four founding member Sue Storm, who was portrayed by Jessica Alba in both the 2005 and 2007 films. Ioan Gruffudd played Mr. Fantastic while Michael Chiklis portrayed The Thing.

In the movies, Chris Evans' Johnny Storm was easily the most selfish and easy-go-lucky person in the Fantastic Four. After he was exposed to a cosmic radioactive cloud, Johnny Storm gained the ability to create and manipulate fire, making him The Human Torch. Additionally, with the help of his fire powers, Johnny Storm also mastered flight ability.

In the first movie, Storm kept burning off his clothes after initially becoming acquainted with his newfound powers, which led him to use a radiated spacesuit, which later became his official Fantastic Four super suit. In the first movie, Johnny was the only character to immediately fall in love with his powers and even became the team's public face for a while.

In the second movie, contact with the Silver Surfer allowed him to switch superpowers with whoever he touched. The ability became useful later in the movie when Chris Evans' Johnny faced cosmic-powered Dr. Doom. Johnny also has the ability to go supernova by converting to the hottest levels of plasma that he can create.

The first Fantastic Four movie was a box-office hit, having made $333,535,934 internationally from a budget of $100,000,000, as per Box Office Mojo. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer followed up with a worldwide gross of $301,913,131 but this time from a budget of $130,000,000.

Instead of making another follow-up to the movie, the franchise was rebooted with 2015's ill-fated and critically panned Fantastic Four which saw Michael B. Jordan portray the Human Torch along with Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as the Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bell as The Thing.
