Another reboot of the Hellboy franchise is due with Hellboy: The Crooked Man, this time from filmmaker Brian Taylor, who's set to a deep dive into Hellboy's universe and its dark, horror-focused elements. For long-time fans, it's a new chapter for the much-cherished Dark Horse Comics character, originally hewn by Mike Mignola.

The writers are devoted to delivering the film with an amplified horror aspect to charms long-time fans and new viewers alike. The cinematic journey of Hellboy began with films by Guillermo Del Toro: Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), starring Ron Perlman. These films have grown into cult favourites despite modest box office returns.

In 2019, a reboot starring David Harbour was released but failed to resonate with critics and audiences. Now, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set to resuscitate the franchise by delving deep into elements that border on the eerie and supernatural.

Brian Taylor brings his high-octane and horror experience from his work on Crank and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Led by Jack Kesy, the flick hosts an amazing cast that will continue to give a wicked, new spin of terror to the Hellboy legend.

That said, considering the dynamic of how films are being distributed these days, a streaming release is highly likely as well. No particular confirmation on which platforms or formats it will be streamed has been nailed down yet.

What to expect from Hellboy: The Crooked Man?

According to the official synopsis, Hellboy, who is played by Jack Kesy, finds himself in rural Appalachia in the 1950s with a novice BPRD agent. They come across a small community suffering at the hands of witches, including the mysterious and charismatic Crooked Man.

Kesy lends a fresh new perspective to the iconic character and is known for his signature roles in 12 Strong, Deadpool 2 and Without Remorse. The cast is completed by Jefferson White, Adeline Rudolph, Joseph Marcell, Leah McNamara, Hannah Margetson and Martin Bassindale.

It's directed by Brian Taylor, known for his work on Crank, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Happy!

The screenplay is penned by Chris Golden with the participation of Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. Among the producers listed are Mike Richardson, Jeff Greenstein, Jonathan Yunger, Les Weldon, Robert Van Norden and Yariv Lemer.

The film is an adaptation of the comic by Mignola, The Crooked Man, which was a period piece in the Appalachian mountains in the 1950s. Hellboy has always been a creature inclined to dark, folk horror tales with small, closely knit stories and not typical world-saving plot lines.
