House of Ga'a, the new Nollywood addition to Netflix is about Bashorun Ga’a, the ruthless and power-hungry leader of the Oyo dynasty. The movie is narrated by Oyemekun, Ga’a's only surviving son. House of Ga'a is directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters and stars Funke Akindele, Femi Branch, and Femi Adebayo among others.
In the eighteenth century, Ga'a thought of himself as a superior ruler and did not submit to anyone higher or lower in the ranks. His reign was politically unfair and corrupt. Ga’a didn’t care for his wives or his sons. He only cared about his never-ending power, which made him kill many innocent leaders.
However, the film House of Ga'a concludes on a satisfying note with good triumphing over evil as Ga’a gets paralyzed and is killed by his own people of Oyo. His death once again brought back prosperity and peace to the kingdom, ending his reign of hegemony, black magic, and fear.
House of Ga'a arrived on Netflix on July 26, 2024.

House of Ga'a ending explained
The power-hungry Ga'a
House of Ga’a starts on a triumphant note with Ga’a returning to Oyo with the head of the Nupe King. When it is time to choose among the slaves, Ga’a takes in Zainab, who later in the movie becomes his wife and helps him even while he is paralyzed.
Although the whole film portrays Bashorun Ga’a as a ruthless and power-hungry ruler, there is a time in the film when we see him showing his humanity by saving Zainab from being killed and announcing her as his next wife.
Ga’a's downfall started at the very beginning of the film. Right after the first battle when Ga came back to Oyo and took Zainab as his wife against his son’s and wife's wishes, we came to know about his ruthless and selfish nature.
Throughout House of Ga'a, we witness his tyranny and madness by claiming multiple wives, killing his superiors with the help of black magic, and killing his son's lover and his future wife so that he can stand on his feet again. Marrying Agbonyin to his brother was another one of his dictatorial decisions.
Sasha fails to revive Ga'a
The power of Ga’a started receding with the death of Majeogbe. The black magic worked well and made the snakes kill Majeogbe however it paralysed Ga’a. Even though Sasa tried every potion and medicine to make him stand on his feet again, the magic failed. Even sacrificing Agbonyin wasn’t enough.
With the death of Agbonyin, the whole province turned against him and so did his son Oyemekun, who narrates the film. Ga’a knew that his son Oyemekun loved Agbonyin however he married her first to his brother and then decided to marry her himself.
Oyemekun takes his revenge
In the later moments of the film, Oyemekun kills Sasa by gutting him on his return to Oyo and even tries to kill Ga’a by choking him and putting Zeinab to sleep. However, the guards come on time and stop him. Soon, Abiodun and Aare Ona Kakanfo plan to kill Ga’a and attack Oyo. Even when he is attacked, he is given the option to surrender however he doesn’t listen as a result he loses his wives and multiple sons.
The movie concludes with his death as the people of Oyo tie him down to a tree. Everyone was aware of his spells, his black magic, his murderous tendencies, and his never-ending hunger for power. Even in his last moments, he cursed his people but good ultimately triumphed over evil, giving the people of Oyo a peaceful and prosperous time after his burning death.
Not once in the film does he claim anything in a politically correct way. He used Sasa as his weapon to take down anyone coming his way to interrupt his reign. He killed the people who opposed him and appointed puppets who would obey him.
The only survivors were Oyemekun and Olukuoye in the end. Oyemekun was spared after he changed his name to Gbangbalasa. He lived to tell the story of his father’s reign and how he corrupted the whole empire.
