Veteran American Actor Tony Todd, known for his celebrated role in the Candyman franchise, has passed away at the age of 69. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Todd's wife Fatima confirmed that the actor passed away on Wednesday, November 6, after a prolonged illness at his Marina del Rey home in Los Angeles.
Todd began his acting career in the 1980s. He initially appeared in both television and film, and his breakthrough came with his haunting performance as Sergeant Warren in Platoon (1986). However, his most iconic role to date came in 1992 with Candyman, directed by Bernard Rose.
He was also known for his recurring role as William Bludworth in the Final Destination franchise (2000–2025). The latest movie of the franchise, Final Destination: Bloodlines is set to be released in 2025, and will posthumously feature Todd for the last time.

The production company of the Final Destination franchise, New Line Cinema, issued a statement on Instagram captioned,
"The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony. -Your Final Destination Family"
Insomniac Games, the gaming production studio, also paid tribute to the actor via a statement on Instagram. Todd was associated with the studio as the voice actor for Venom's character in the game Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (2023).
Virginia Madsen, Todd's co-star in Candyman also expressed her remorse for the actor's demise on Instagram with a post captioned,
"Tony Todd. A truly poetic man. A voice that made it easy to swoon. Thanks to Bernard Rose, we really created a gothic romance. It’s why the film lives on. A gentle soul with a deep knowledge of the arts."
She continued:
"I will miss him so much and hope he haunts me once in a while. But I will not summon him in the mirror! What a gift that Jordon Peele let us live again as lovers. He talked about a prequel using technology so that we, ourselves could tell the tale of how their love began. Imagine that. I do. My dear friend Tony, I do."

Born Anthony Tiran Todd on December 4, 1954, in Washington, D.C., Todd grew up in Hartford, Connecticut, where he developed an interest in the performing arts. He was a student at the University of Connecticut and later trained at the Eugene O'Neill National Actors Theatre Institute, laying the foundation for his acting career spanning over four decades.
Todd ventured into films with Sleepwalk and Platoon in 1986. Directed by Oliver Stone, Platoon won an Academy Award for Best Picture and opened doors for Todd in the industry. He became a part of the Candyman franchise in 1992, and his portrayal of Daniel Robitaille solidified his place as a horror icon.
He reprised his role throughout the franchise in Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995), Candyman: Day of the Dead (1999) and Candyman (2021). Loved by fans for his versatility and commanding presence, Tony Todd had over a hundred credits across films, television, and theatre.
He was a part of several horror, thriller, and sci-fi films, such as Night of the Living Dead (1990), The Crow (1994), The Rock (1996), Wishmaster (1997), and Minotaur (2006). He was also the voice of The Fallen in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Zoom in The Flash (2015–2023), and Darkseid in the DC Animated Movie Universe (2015–2020).
As a guest star, he made appearances in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager, portraying different characters across the franchise.
