Deadpool and Wolverine, the much-awaited MCU movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is going to be huge, according to box-office projections. The studio's early box office projections for the upcoming MCU movie are estimating Deadpool and Wolverine to become one of the biggest movies of the year, breaking multiple records.
The precedence has already been set by the trailer, which has set a new record for most views in the first 24 hours with 365 million. Even Deadpool and Wolverine's first-day ticket sales were the best on Fandango for the year 2024. Given this track record, it is very likely that the MCU movie will be a record-breaking success.
Deadpool and Wolverine is expected to break a huge box-office record across the world
According to a new report from The Quorum, Deadpool & Wolverine is projected to earn $200 million-$239 million at its opening weekend domestic box office. As of now, Dune: Part Two, which brought in $81.5 million, holds the record for this year's domestic opening weekend.
NRG, Screen Engine, and other three-week-in-advance box office tracking services have estimated that the domestic box office opening for Disney/Marvel Studios' first R-rated movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, will be at $160 million to $165 million. Worldwide, the estimate stands at $340 million to $360 million off an offshore start of $180 million-$190 million.
The first Deadpool movie released in 2016 holds the record for the biggest R-rated MCU movie opening at the box office with $132.4 million and the upcoming movie from the MCU franchise is expected to break this record too and earn more.
Here is a list of the top record-breaking movies of 2024, which the upcoming Marvel movie is expected to surpass.
What could this mean for Marvel?
A successful opening weekend, as has been estimated, could really go far in turning the tables for the studio, promising a much brighter path for the larger MCU. If Deadpool and Wolverine becomes a blockbuster hit and makes the projected splash at the box office, then director Shawn Levy's name would be in high demand to rescue the Avengers movie, which is stuck in limbo in production.
Levy is reportedly the studio's top pick to helm Avengers 5, which has faced a variety of setbacks. With Jonathan Majors, who was cast as the villain Kang, fired, along with other creative issues the movie is facing, a fresh start with Levy would might fruitful for Avengers 5 as well as the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What is Deadpool and Wolverine all about?
As always, MCU has hardly revealed anything regarding the plot of Deadpool and Wolverine. But ever since the release of the trailer, fans have been coming up with theories of what is going to happen. He will be assisted by Wolverine from a timeline where all the X-Men are dead, but him. And it appears to be Wolverine’s fault.
In the trailer, we also see the two superheroes jumping into a portal that looks exactly like the one Doctor Strange creates. This has led to speculations regarding the return of Doctor Strange. A lot of big claims can be made regarding what will happen in Deadpool and Wolverine. The movie is coming to theaters this July 26, 2024, to lay to rest all speculations and anticipations of Marvel fans and the whole world.
