Taking us back to the Wasteland once more in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, director and writer George Miller gave us a backstory to Charlize Theron's character from Mad Max: Fury Road. Now played by Anya Taylor-Joy, it focuses on the character as she goes on a revenge mission to kill Chris Hemsworth's Dementus as he was responsible for the death of her mother.

One of the most striking aspects of Furiosa as a character is that she sports a robotic left arm. While Mad Max: Fury Road never explains how she lost her arm and gained a robotic one, the recent entry in the franchise gives us a direct answer to that question.

It happens after a battle with Dementus when the Anya Taylor-Joy character decides to escape the villain by severing her own arm.

Furiosa loses her arm after a battle with Dementus

While trying to escape from Dementus and his army, Praetorian Jack and Furiosa engage in a chase with him. However, her arm ends up getting pinched between her car and a tire of Dementus' truck. Leaving her severely injured, she and Jack are captured by Dementus who ties her up by his truck while his dogs end up ravaging Jack.

However, off-screen, she escapes by cutting off her arm and escaping to the Citadel where she alerts Immortan Joe of Dementus' plans. While planning her revenge on Dementus, she decides to build a mechanical arm for herself and also shaves her head.

An added detail makes Furiosa losing her arm even more heartbreaking

One of the most heartbreaking parts about Furiosa losing her arm is that she had tattooed a map on her hand that could lead her back to the Green Place. As a child, she was taken away from the Green Place and to Dementus' camp. She spent a good amount of time tattooing a map on her hand based on the stars in the sky.

With her having lost her arm, it acts as a heartbreaking reminder for her to remember what she has lost in the pursuit of vengeance. It also sets up her journey in Mad Max: Fury Road where she escapes Immortan Joe and his army of War Boys to return to the Green Place.

Who is Praetorian Jack?

Praetorian Jack is a character played by Tom Burke in the film, and he is also the romantic partner of the titular character. He is one of Immortan Joe's most trusted War Rig drivers and has also completed many runs successfully. The film also hints at his having a military background to him, but his backstory is never revealed.

He begins his journey with the titular character when his team ends up dying during a War Rig run and enlists her to be his second in command. They both strike up a romantic relationship from there on, with Jack also accompanying her on her journey to the Green Place before Dementus captures them.

At the end of the film, Furiosa is successful in getting her revenge on Dementus - however, it is unclear what she does with him. After a car chase, she can successfully subdue him but Dementus taunts her saying that revenge won't make her whole.

The film's narrator then chimes in to say that Furiosa personally told him that she imprisoned him within the Citadel. She apparently ended up using his body as a fertilizer to build a peach tree with a seed that was given to her by her mother, and this leads to her also becoming an imperator for Immortan Joe.

Fans can check out the film right now as it is playing in theatres.
