From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is the first spinoff from the John Wick franchise, which has to date resulted in four John Wick movies thus far. The upcoming series, set for a release on June 5, 2025, will delve into the character of ballerina/assassin Eve Macarro, who has been a critical ally of Wick on multiple occasions.

Maccarro will be seen training the assassins of the Ruska Roma in the series, and will be seeking revenge against her fallen family members. The series has the following official synopsis:

“A young female assassin seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.”

The series saw the release of its first trailer recently, which, much to the surprise of many viewers, also included Lance Reddick’s character, Charon. The character was the concierge of The Continental in New York City, and was another one of John Wick’s allies. He was killed off towards the beginning of John Wick: Chapter 4.

Further, actor Lance Reddick unfortunately met his demise at the age of 60 last year, owing to coronary artery disease and atherosclerotic heart disease. However, his scenes were shot before his death, and Ballerina has been set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3, and John Wick: Chapter 4.

That is why the character is set to be a part of the upcoming series.

Lance Reddick’s Charon is also part of Ballerina

Charon’s death occurred at the hands of Marquis de Gramont, played by Bill Skarsgård in John Wick: Chapter 4. Further, the actor’s death meant that nobody was expecting Reddick to be a part of what is the John Wick franchise’s first-ever spinoff.

However, rather than it being a point of interest, his inclusion in the film is down to the timeline of Ballerina. While Lance Reddick’s character died in John Wick: Chapter 4, the upcoming movie is set between the events of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. This means that Reddick’s Chiron has not met his demise just yet, and the character can be expected to have played a big role in the upcoming movie as well.

Hence, as far as Ballerina is concerned, Chiron can be expected to continue as the loyal concierge of the Continental Hotel that fans know him as. Hence, while fans already know how his story ends, the character will be seen in his full glory in the upcoming movie.

Regardless, the creators have included him as one final tribute, which can be expected to further increase the hype surrounding the movie. In the trailer, Charon was once again seen as the concierge at The Continental. The famous site from the John Wick world serves as a sanctuary for assassins, which is also set to be true for the protagonist of this upcoming movie.

Eve Macarro will be seen taking refuge at The Continental, a site where John Wick has sought escape in, multiple times. Further, Eve, being an orphan, was taken in by Ian McShane’s Winston Scott as a kid, who also survived John Wick: Chapter 4.

Macarro however, will be seen embarking on a quest for revenge against the killers of her biological family. In order to do so, she becomes a trained assassin, with her story also expected to tie in flawlessly with the rest of the John Wick universe.

Of course, Charon and Winston Scott are not the only characters, apart from Macarro, who will be seen in Ballerina. Keanu Reeves is also a surprise inclusion as John Wick himself. Further, Anjelica Huston will take on the role of The Director, a new character as far as the John Wick franchise is concerned.

Hence, in a nutshell, the inclusion of various characters, especially Charon, despite his death, is down to the timeline of Ballerina. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will be released on June 5, 2025.
