In the realm of Marvel superheroes and villains, only a few characters are as unpredictable and chaotic yet hilarious as Deadpool. The anti-hero-turned-hero has been a part of multiple comics, movies, and animated series. This has led fans to wonder how many versions of the character originally existed in the Marvel Comics.

Wade Wilson's alter ego, also known as the Merc with the Mouth, has one of him existing in every universe. The variant from Earth-616 has received widespread recognition as the original Marvel version with Ryan Reynolds set to reappear in the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The character will be featured in Marvel's upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine, which is set to be released on July 26, 2024. The official synopsis of the film reads:

"Wolverine is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the loudmouth, Deadpool. They team up to defeat a common enemy."

What is the most powerful version of Deadpool?

In the world of Marvel comics, has been depicted differently in several ways depending on the reimaginations of the characters by various artists. The title of the most powerful version goes to the Earth-12101 version, Dreadpool, who is reportedly known as the most proficient killer and the main antagonist in the Killogy of the Marvel Comics universe.

Dreadpool first appeared in Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe #1 in 2012 in which he went on a killing rampage after he harbored the belief that the universe was a lie. Once he had executed all superheroes and villains of his universe, he went on to destroy all other versions of himself.

This led to the creation of Evil Deadpool Corps wherein he brought together the worst of all variants and set upon his mission. He was killed by the variant from Earth-616 who eventually became the mainstream variant in pop culture.

Apart from Dreadpool, other powerful versions include Unipool, Cosmic Pool and Venom Pool.

Is the movie Deadpool comic accurate?

The Tim Miller movie is accurate to the comics in multiple ways but it also uses creative freedom to make changes to the character arc of the Mercenary. The creators keep the foul mouth and penchant for violence intact per the comic book representation. His powers of regeneration and recovery keep true to the comics and so does his charred skin - a side effect of his cancer treatment that got him his powers.

On the same note, they bring in changes such as Wade Wilson's relationship with Blind Al who is held captive in the comics. Wade's girlfriend and later wife, Vanessa, is known to be a mutant in the books - a concept that may or may not be explored in the upcoming movie.

The movie leaves out any explanation regarding the Weapon X program that was showcased in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The comics showcase him to receive only his healing powers from Wolverine but the 2016 movie showcased Weapon X to be run by Ajax. Meanwhile, there is no mention of a Weapon XI in the comics.

The movie version of the antihero creates X-Force which does not exist in the Marvel Comics universe. The X-Force in the comics were brought together by Cable and trained to be The New Mutants - a group far more skilled than the X-Men.
