The French adventure comedy film Family Pack (Loups-garous in French) was released on October 23, 2024. Directed by François Uzan, the movie is based on the French card game The Werewolves of Millers Hollow.

The fantasy film revolves around a family whose members get teleported to the medieval world while playing a board game. However, there is a catch: in this medieval world, werewolves run amok, and if they are to get back safely to the real world, they must defeat the werewolves.

Family Pack contains several twists and turns that propel the plot forward in amusing ways. For instance, at the end of the film, it is revealed that Piero, the character who helps Jerome and his family in their quest, is none other than Leonard da Vinci. Once Jerome and company get back to the real world, they discover that Mona Lisa’s face now has an uncanny resemblance with Jerome’s face.

Family Pack gives Mona Lisa a new face

As Jerome and his family get transported to the medieval world while playing the enigmatic board game, they gradually find out how things work in this world. For instance, they discover that they have the powers that their cards hold in the game. Also, much to their surprise, they find out that Louise is a werewolf in this world.

In other words, while the other members of the family end up with powers corresponding to those assigned to their cards, Louise becomes one of the antagonists of the game in the form of a werewolf.

The family has to protect Louise from the sheriff of the village, who is hunting down werewolves and going around punishing people when he has the slightest suspicion. At the same time, the family also has to hunt down the werewolves on their own if they are to exit the world of the game.

Piero, a gay man who is also a scientist, a painter, and an inventor, among other things, helps Jerome and company in their mission. In fact, when Marie is imprisoned for allegedly being a witch (in the medieval world, literate women were often branded as witches), Piero helps the family rescue her.

In the closing moments of Family Pack, Jerome thanks Piero for all the help. It is clear that Piero has become quite infatuated with Jerome, with the former repeating that the latter has fired up his creativity, and ‘inspired’ him to use his full name.

When Jerome asks Piero what his full name is, he replies that it is Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci. Jerome looks at Piero in awe and reverence and requests his ancestor to buy everything that Piero will paint.

The ending of the film shows that Jerome’s ancestor did what he had told him to do. In fact, it is shown that the Mona Lisa actually belonged to Jerome’s family before it was donated to the Louvre Museum.

As Jerome’s wife remarks that she preferred the original face of Mona Lisa, the camera cuts to Mona Lisa’s face as it is now, after da Vinci met Jerome and painted her. The painting has an unmistakable resemblance to Jerome’s face. He tells his wife that she is just jealous.
