One day, while filming her show, Lydia starts hallucinating and sees Betelgeuse, the restless ghost who had sought to wed her decades ago. This is when Lydia and Astrid return to Winter River after some family tragedy. It doesn't take long before Lydia's life becomes even more complicated when Astrid opens a portal to the Afterlife by accident, which brings Betelgeuse back into her life.

The film continues to open the story focusing on a fragile relationship between Lydia and Astrid with the uncontrolled mayhem brought about by the revival of Betelgeuse. In addition, there are many familiar faces throughout the movie, including Delia Deetz, the owner of an art gallery, and several other new characters like Lydia's manager Rory, the ex-wife of Betelgeuse, Delores.
