Chucky is an American slasher horror franchise, which began with the release of Child's Play on November 9, 1988. Created by filmmaker and screenwriter Don Mancini, the franchise revolves around a "Good Guy" doll, possessed by the evil spirit of a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray. After being chased and shot by Detective Mike Norris, right before his death Charles puts his soul inside a doll named Chucky with black magic.

Chucky soon starts a killing rampage, eliminating everyone on the way. Since 1988, the franchise has produced six sequels, a remake, and a television series. Additionally, the evil doll has appeared numerous in comic books, video games, and television commercials.

After the release of Cult of Chucky, the franchise shifted to its eighth installment in the form of a television series. The first season of Chucky premiered on October 12, 2021, and ran for three successive seasons. On September 28, 2024, the fourth season was canceled. Released on November 9, 1988, Child's Play was the first movie in the franchise. Directed by Tom Holland, the movie narrates the story of a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray, who is shot by Detective Mike Norris, while on a chase. Right before dying, Charles transfers his soul into a doll using black magic.

This evil doll is bought by Karen Barclay, and gifted to his son Andy. Charles' spirit in the form of a doll soon starts killing people, and Andy must make it stop before he becomes the victim. Child's Play is available for streaming on Sling TV, AMC Plus, Philo, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV Plus.


2) Child's Play 2 (1990)

Child's Play 2 is the second installment in the franchise which was released on November 9, 1990. Directed by John Lafia, based on a story by Don Mancini, the movie continues two years after Andy managed to escape from Charles. The Play Pals Corporation has manufactured another line of Good Guy dolls, reawakening the evil spirit.

Eight-year-old Andy now lives in foster care, after his mother is sent to a rehab for claiming the doll to be alive. Andy is raised by Phil and Joanne Simpsons and meets a teenager named Kylie whom he befriends. Charles after rising from the dead tracks down Andy's location, and is determined to transfer his soul into him and get a human form. Child's Play 2 is available for streaming on Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, fubo TV, and Amazon Prime Video.

Based on Don Mancini's story, the third movie was directed by Jack Bender, that was premiered on August 30, 1991. Child's Play 3 begins years after Chuky is killed in the doll manufacturing factory. The company brings a new line of dolls, made from the same haunted materials, reviving Charles's spirit back.

Andy is now a teenager who is enrolled into Ken Military School, after failing to survive in multiple foster homes. Chucky manages to track Andy's location after torturing the toy company's CEO Mr. Sullivan and going through his computer records. The doll soon resumes his mission of slashing everyone who comes in the way. 4) Bride of Chucky (1998)

Directed by Ronny Yu, the movie was released on October 16, 1988. Charles finds himself back from the dead and realizes his doll was resurrected by his ex-girlfriend Tiffany. Charles had killed Tiffany after an argument, which shifted her soul into a bride doll.

The two evil dolls are tenacious to get back into human forms and choose a teenage couple from New Jersey named Jesse and Jade, who are completely unaware they will be the victims. The movie is available on Netflix, Apple TV Plus, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.


5) Seed of Chucky (2004)

Don Mancini finally comes back to write and direct the fifth installment of the franchise. The movie was released on November 11, 2024. Gentle Glen, a puppet doll is the child of Charles and Tiffany. As an orphan when Glen realizes that Hollywood is making a film about his parents.

Glen restores his parents to life but is terrorized after realizing they are gruesome serial killers. Glen finds it very hard to continue the legacy, as he is completely against violence. The movie is available on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV Plus, and Fandango at Home.


6) Curse of Chucky (2013)

Nica Pierce is a young woman who is paralyzed from the lower half of her body. She had never the true reason behind her impairment, but her past knocks at the door in the form of a mysterious package with a Good Guy doll inside of it.

The movie was made available for Video On Demand on September 24, 2013. It is available for streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV Plus, and Fandango at Home.


7) Cult of Chucky (2017)

Nica Pierce is sent to a mental health institution, after being discovered around butchered bodies, originally killed by the doll. Andy has captured the body and has been torturing its dismembered body for the last four years. But the true horror comes back when the spirit discovers a spell to possess multiple Good Guy dolls, soon forming an evil cult.

It was released on October 3, 2017. The movie is available on Netflix, Apple TV Plus, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.


8) Child's Play Remake (2019)

Child's Play (2019) is the remake of the original 1998 film, which was released on June 21, 2019. Directed by Lars Klevberg, based on a screenplay written by Tyler Burton Smith, the story shifts Chucky into the world of Artificial Intelligence.

Multinational Kaslan Corporation produced a line of high-tech AI doll robots meant to be companions to humans. But when a frustrated Vietnamese worker, disables the safety features from one doll, it transforms into Chucky embarking on a deadly rampage. Child's Play Remake is available on Apple TV Plus.


9) Chucky Television Series (2021-2024)

Jake Wheeler is a fourteen-year-old kid living in Hackensack New Jersey. During Halloween, he buys a Good Guy doll from a yard sale to use as a prop. But soon Jake discovers that the doll is possessed by the spirit of a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray. After a line of mysterious murders occurs around the neighborhood, Jake realizes maybe the evil doll is behind it.

The three seasons are available for streaming on multiple platforms including Peacock, Hulu, Apple TV Plus, Amazon Prime Video, AMC Plus, fubo TV, Sling TV, Philo, and Fandango at Home.
