The Despicable Me franchise is back again with a new addition, Despicable Me 4, that takes Gru and the Minions for another adventure. Based on the franchise's history, the movie had high expectations at the box office and needless to say, the Minions delivered. After a successful theatrical run, the movie is headed for at-home viewing options tomorrow, August 6.

The popular animated franchise made its debut in 2010 where the audience was introduced to supervillain Gru and his army of Minions. Over the course of four movies, he has transformed into the hero, a loving husband, and a caring father when Despicable Me 4 opens. This movie follows Gru and his family as they encounter a new villain, Maxime Le Mal.


Digital Release date of Despicable Me 4: Where to watch the movie?

Following its theatrical release on July 3, 2024, Despicable Me 4 was an instant box-office success. With an estimated budget of $100 million, which makes it the most expensive installment in the franchise, the film has grossed a whopping $752.2 million worldwide, which is broken up into $314 million from domestic and $438.3 million from overseas sources.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for a month for the movie to become digitally available. The wait is finally over as the animated movie will debut digitally on PVOD (Premium Video on Demand) platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and VUDU this August 6, 2024.


Despicable Me 4 can now be purchased for online watching

The movie comes at a price of $29.99 and can also be rented for $24.99 (for 48 hours) on these viewing platforms platforms. However, those who are looking forward to a Blu-ray or DVD version, or stream it on a streaming platform, have to wait as there is no official confirmation regarding those release dates yet.

The digital release will also include two Minion mini-movies, including Benny's Birthday and Game Over and Over. Benny's Birthday follows Benny becoming stuck in a time loop while celebrating a Minions-style birthday. Game Over and Over follows the chaos that ensues when the Minions discover a game controller, which gives them the ability to control one another.

The voice cast of Despicable Me 4 is as follows:

  • Steve Carell as Gru, a former supervillain turned hero
  • Kristen Wiig as Lucy Wilde, an Anti-Villain League agent who is now Gru's wife and adoptive mother to Margo, Edith, and Agnes. She has a child with Gru now, who is called Gru Jr.
  • Will Ferrell as Maxime Le Mal, a French-accented supervillain and Gru's high school rival
  • Joey King as Poppy Prescott, an aspiring supervillainess who admires Gru

Plot and trailer explored

Despicable Me 4 opens with Gru and Lucy adjusting to becoming parents with the arrival of Gru Jr. which throws the entire house into disarray. In the middle of this domestic chaos, the news of the escape of villain Maxime Le Mal forces Gru and his clan to go into hiding, as Maxime plots revenge against Gru for some long-harbored wrath against him.

The movie introduces us to a new supervillain and an exciting plot, but at the heart of the story is the relationship between Gru and his young son. The trailer, which runs for 2.27 mins and opens to the track of Sweet Child O' Mine, gives a glimpse at Gru's chaotic household following the arrival of his newborn son before delving into what happens over the course of the movie.
