After releasing in theaters on November 8, 2024, A24's dark psychological horror thriller Heretic, starring Hugh Grant, is heading towards a digital release. Coming from A Quiet Place creators Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the movie is an original story that follows two young missionary girls and how their attempts to share their Mormon beliefs take a dark turn, and they find themselves trapped by Grant's character.

The digital release date for the movie is December 10, 2024. It will be available to stream via premium video on demand. It can be rented or purchased on Apple TV, Google Play Movies, and Fandango At Home.

Before becoming available for streaming, Heretic is heading towards a digital release tomorrow (December 10). The movie will be available to buy or rent on all major PVOD platforms like Apple TV, Google Play Movies, VUDU, and Prime Video, among others. As per Forbes, Heretic is up for pre-order on PVOD for $24.99, but rentals come at $5 less than the purchase price. This means viewers can expect to rent the movie for a 48-hour period for $19.99.

But for those who want to see the movie on a streaming site, it will be available to stream on Max sometime next year. As per the deal between A24 and Warner Bros., A24 movies are on HBO's streaming platform, Max, about 120 days after the theatrical release. This means Heretic will be released on the streaming platform in March 2025.

The A24 thriller made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2024. It stars veteran actor Hugh Grant in the lead role as a seemingly nice old man who welcomes two Mormon missionaries into his home. Little are the two young women aware that he intends to play a cruel and sinister game with them, making it impossible for them to leave.

According to Box Office Mojo, Heretic has proved to be a success by grossing $27.5 million in the United States and Canada and $40.9 million worldwide.

The official synopsis of the movie reads as follows:

“Two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed, becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.”

Hugh Grant stars in the movie as Mr. Reed, who has a sinister plan for the Mormon missionaries. Grant is a critically acclaimed Hollywood actor with a wide fan following for his leading roles in romantic movies. He has starred in Maurice (1987), Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Notting Hill (1999), Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) and its sequel, Two Weeks Notice (2002), and Love Actually (2003), among others.

Grant is joined by Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, who play the Mormon missionaries, Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton, respectively. Thatcher is an American singer and actor best known for her film roles in Prospect, The Boogeyman, and Companion. She has also starred in television series like the Showtime psychological drama series Yellowjackets and the Star Wars miniseries The Book of Boba Fett.

American actor and dancer Chloe East, who joins Thatcher, is best known for appearing as a child actor in two episodes of True Blood in 2013. East has also starred in the first season of Ice and one season of Kevin (Probably) Saves the World. She also had a role in Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical production The Fabelmans (2022).

Topher Grace and Elle Young join the cast of Heretic as Elder Kennedy and Prophet.
