What is the movie all about?
Kinds of Kindness is a triptych fable loaded with corrosive humor that once again brings out the genius of Lanthimos in its most cynical and comedic form.
According to its official synopsis, the movie follows three stories: one about a man without any choice who attempts to take control of his own life, another about a policeman whose wife seems like a different person after being lost at sea, and one about a woman who is in search of someone with a special ability.
Talking about the unique composition of the movie, Lanthimos told Deadline:
“We told each other, ‘should we try a different structure for a film?’ And we thought about making an anthology, and actually in the beginning, you were supposed to follow the three stories in parallel, but then I had this idea of the same actors playing different characters in the different stories, but that would have been very confusing.
"And we decided to see how it would work if we separated the stories, and actually they became even stronger.”
He continued:
“It’s like three short stories, basically. So just by its nature there’s not so much information for the characters or their backstory. Apart from the fact that I like that anyway, to throw people into a world, into certain situations, and to try and figure that out, I find it more engaging.”
Kinds of Kindness is an absurdist anthology film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay written by Lanthimos alongside Efthimis Filippou.

The star-studded cast of Lanthimos' Kinds of Kindness features Emma Stone, alongside Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Mamoudou Athie, Joe Alwyn, and Hunter Schafer. All of them play different roles in the three stories that the movie presents us with.
