The Beast Within witnessed Kit Harington once again roaming around in the woods transmitting his wolf aura, after playing The White Wolf John Snow in Game of Thrones for eight seasons.

The film is about a young girl ,who has been living a secluded life in the woods with her parents, discovering that her father turns into a monster at night. The film was released on July 26, 2024, and is available for streaming on Apple TV+ in selected territories.

The film is directed by Alexander J. Farrell, who also co-wrote it with Greer Ellison. It stars Kit Harington, Ashleigh Cummings, James Cosmo and Caoilinn Springall in prominent roles.

What is The Beast Within about?

The film shares its title with Edward Levy's second novel published in 1981. The novel has also been adapted into a film by Philippe Mora, which was released in 1982. Documentary filmmaker Alexander J. Farrell, in his feature film debut, seems to be heavily inspired by the novel.

The novel chronicles a boy named Micheal, whose personality changes into a beast every night. He falls in love with a girl but is afraid of hurting her. Unfortunately, in the novel, Micheal doesn't get to have a happily ever after with his lover.

The film reimagines Micheal's story through Kit Harrington's character Noah and gives it a supernatural twist along with some subtle social commentary about patriarchal tyranny.

The film focuses on Noah's 10-year-old daughter Williow, an asthmatic child without siblings or friends, who begins to question her family's atypical and secluded life in a rural isolated area.

Soon she finds out that her parents have been hiding something for years. Her authoritative and brash father often turns into a werewolf. Willow and her mother Imogene have to continue their atypical life to remain a family as Noah struggles to conceal the beast within him.

As the story progresses, his condition gets worse, leaving everyone's life around him in danger. The film also delves into the ancestral nature of Noah's bestiality, as Willow also turns into a werewolf, continuing the cycle.

The Beast Within cast explored

Kit Harington is leading the cast of the film as Noah, the dominating figure in the family. The actor rose to fame through his role as Jon Snow in HBO's magnum-opus Game of Thrones.

Australian actress Ashleigh Cummings is playing Noah's wife Imogene, who's the mother of Willow, played by Caoilinn Springall. James Cosmo, who played Jeor Mormont in Game of Thrones, will be reuniting with his co-star, playing Waylon, Imogene's father.
