Y2K, the horror comedy directed by former Saturday Night Live star Kyle Mooney and starring Rachel Zegler, is coming to digital release platforms soon. After opening in theaters on December 8, 2024, the horror comedy will be available for digital viewing on platforms like Prime Video, and Apple TV, among other platforms from Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
The movie deals with the fear that technology would take over due to the Year 2000 problem and follows a group of high schoolers who come to learn about the Year 2000 problem and are faced with a difficult situation where everything is going south.
Digital release details of Y2K explored: Date, platforms, and how to rent?
Y2K originally premiered at South by Southwest in March 2024 and was only released in theaters on the first week of December. After a short theatrical run, the movie is being made available sooner than expected on digital release platforms.
Starting Tuesday, December 24, 2024, that is Christmas Eve, it will be available to rent or purchase the film through digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, and Fandango at Home, among other platforms. The movie is now available for pre-order on these sites for $24.99 before taxes. It can also be rented for 48 hours for $19.99.
As of now, there is no confirmed date for Y2K's release on streaming platforms. But the horror comedy will eventually drop on Max, the HBO streaming platform at a later date. This is because of the deal between A24 and Warner Bros. according to which every new A24 movie released in theaters will be available to stream on Max after a few months.
There is usually a four-month gap between a film's theatrical debut and its streaming launch. According to this schedule, the movie may be coming on Max in April 2025.
