Actress Sharon Stone made an appearance on an edition of Bruce Bozzi's Table for Two Podcast on March 7, 2023. In the podcast, she discussed how, in 2004, she lost custody of her child due to her femme fatale appearances in films like Basic Instinct (1992), which featured brief nudity.
Speaking of the same in the Table for Two podcast, she said:
"I lost custody of my child. The judge asked my child, my tiny little, tiny boy, 'Do you know your mother makes sex movies?' This kind of abuse by the system - this kind of abuse, that I was considered what kind of parent I was because I made that movie.”
Roan was adopted in 2000 by Stone and her husband, American journalist Phil Bronstein. However, in 2003, Bronstein filed for divorce and also obtained custody of their kid.
Sharon Stone's response to losing Roan's custody battle: 'It broke my heart.'
Sharon Stone previously disclosed how heartbreaking it was for her to lose custody of her child, Roan. Regarding the loss of the custody dispute, she stated on the Table for Two Podcast :
“I ended up in the Mayo Clinic with extra heartbeats in my upper and lower chamber of my heart. It broke my heart.”
The judge however denied her custody of her eldest son, Roan, for multiple reasons. According to San Francisco Superior Court judge Anne-Christine Massullo, Stone allegedly prioritized her work and tended to overreact to her son's health problems, so she ordered Roan to remain with his father, Phil Bronstein.
As per reports by ABC News, the judge stated that Roan’s father could provide him with a "more structured continuity (and a more) stable, secure, and consistent home,” therefore he should have the child's custody.
According to ABC News in 2005, the judge mandated that the couple's son spend the first two years with his father and the next two years with his mother.
However, in 2007, Sharon Stone wanted her son to reside with her in Los Angeles. At this point, Phil Bronstein had won the custody dispute and was granted interim primary custody by the court.
A court document on this case reads:
"While this court in no way faults (Stone) for having to travel for her career, she is unavailable for Roan on a constant basis.”
Judge Anne-Christine Massullo, who settled the custody dispute in Phil Bronstein's favor, stated in court that Sharon Stone neglected her responsibilities as a mother because of her busy schedule and assigned her parental duties to "third-parties."
Sharon Stone has reunited with her son Roan
The Mercury News reported on November 27, 2024, that Stone currently resides with two adopted sons, Quinn and Laird. Roan, who is now 22, was also allowed by the court to move to LA, to live with his mother.
Sharon expressed happiness about the reunion and told PEOPLE in 2018:
“I live in the same house I’ve had for 25 years, and I feel happy waking up in my house with my kids. They’re at a wonderful age when we don’t have to have a nanny living with us anymore. I can wake up on a Saturday and I come downstairs, and they’re playing and we hang out. We swim, play basketball, we watch movies. We have such a lovely family dynamic.”
