Macaulay Culkin does pop in most homes during Christmas, thanks to his ever-lasting classics, Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, both of which are widely considered to be among the greatest Christmas movies ever made. Outside his extreme fame from a young age, Culkin has also been a source of a lot of scrutiny over the years, especially for the tabloids.

There were all kinds of rumors about Macaulay Culkin, which were propelled by tabloid journalism following his withdrawal from acting after a solid stint in his early years. However, one that has persisted is the actor's use of substances.

While interviews with Culkin are rare, the actor did debunk this rumor in an interview with The Guardian in 2016. Speaking about this rumored allegation, the actor commented:

"Of course, when silly stuff is going on - but no, I was not pounding six grand of heroin every month or whatever. The thing that bugged me was tabloids wrapping it all in this weird guise of concern. No, you're trying to shift papers,"

He did not completely debunk all the rumors, but he said "not necessarily" when asked if people should actually be concerned about him. A part of these rumors perhaps stemmed from his previous arrest for possession of marijuana, Xanax, and clonazepam.

In this interview, he also claimed that there was perhaps a personal story that he would want to tell the world on his own terms.

Macaulay Culkin has "no idea" why people are still so interested in him

Culkin had his prime days with Home Alone, and he proceeded to shy away from the limelight after his first string of movies in the 1990s. Unlike most who seek it out with the greatest of intent, Macaulay Culkin did not want to a part of Hollywood and wanted to go back to his normal life.

He has returned to acting after this but he was subject to much more media attention than he would have liked. He discussed this in the same interview with The Guardian.

"I have no idea. I was thinking about this the other day - I'd crossed the wrong street, picked up a tail, suddenly there's a crush of 20 paparazzi. Then people with cameraphones get involved. I don't think I'm worthy of that," he said.

Macaulay Culkin added:

"It's been like that my whole adult life. You take on a prey-like attitude, always scanning the horizon. It's strange on dates, as it looks like you're not paying attention. But I've stopped trying to think of myself in the third person, because that's just gonna drive me nuts."

He also answered whether he turned his back on the spotlight. He said:

"I don't just turn my back, I actively don't want it. The paps go after me because I don't w**re myself out."

He went on to claim how he loved to do his own thing and how his childhood fame and prosperity allowed him to live on his own terms. But still, he remains an intriguing figure in Hollywood even today.

Perhaps his reluctance to stay in the limelight remains one of the reasons why there is always focus on him. And everyone would perhaps continue to remember Macaulay Culkin on every Christmas to come.
