Hollywood A-lister, Margot Robbie, made her acting debut in 2008 by playing Donna Freedman in the Australian soap opera, Neighbours. Her other notable television performance was starring as the stewardess Laura Cameron in the period drama Pan Am from 2011 to 2012.
In 2013, Robbie became an overnight star when she played Naomi Lapaglia in The Wolf of Wall Street opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. Her career reached new heights with films like Suicide Squad, I, Tonya, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Bombshell, Babylon, Mary Queen of Scots, etc.
In 2016, Margot appeared on the cover of Vogue’s June issue and marked the occasion by shooting a parody video of the morning routine sequence from American Psycho. The particular scene involved Patrick Bateman, played by Christian Bale, explaining his morning skincare and fitness routine.
The Australian actress recreated the famous scene shot for shot, only switching out a few details from the original video. She also repeated the famous monologue verbatim (except for her name), which ended with Margot declaring:
"I simply am not there."
Everything to know about Margot Robbie's parody video from American Psycho
Directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, the video was shot to promote Margot Robbie's appearance on the cover of Vogue’s June 2016 issue. It showcased Robbie's morning skincare routine as being similar to Patrick Bateman’s from the cult classic film, American Psycho.
In the video, Robbie narrated her morning routine, much like Bateman did in the film, in a deadpan voice. She was seen placing two cold spoons on her eyes to get rid of her puffy eyes. The Dreamland actress went on to detail her multi-step skincare routine, which included using a "placenta-infused facial toner for that third-trimester glow without the cravings."
As she took off her facial mask, Robbie delivered the famous monologue:
"There is an idea of Margot Robbie, some kind of abstraction but there is no real me, only an entity, something illusory. Though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand, and feel flesh gripping yours, and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there."
The video went one step further and showed the actress breaking into a smile and dancing to upbeat music before the camera zoomed in on her Vogue cover.
Margot Robbie set box office records with her last film
Margot Robbie's last film appearance was in the blockbuster hit Barbie, released on July 21, 2023. The fantasy comedy film was directed by Greta Gerwig from a screenplay she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach.
Robbie played the titular role of a "stereotypical Barbie" who leads a picture-perfect existence in Barbieland. When she begins malfunctioning all of a sudden, Barbie travels to the real world with Ken (played by Ryan Gosling) to find out who is behind it. Her endeavor takes her to Mattel employee Gloria and leads her on a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.
The film's star cast included Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, and Rhea Perlman, among many others.
Barbie became a phenomenal success at the box office, raking in $1.4 billion against a budget of $128-145 million, as per Box Office Mojo. It set several records, including the 14th-top-grossing film of all time, the highest-grossing film ever released by Warner Bros., and the highest-grossing film of 2023.
Furthermore, the movie earned several accolades and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including 'Best Picture.' It won the Oscar for 'Best Original Score' for the single What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell.
