Canadian actor Simu Liu recently engaged in banter with fans and the official Marvel Multiverse X account (formerly Twitter) on September 3, 2024. In a tweet from the same date, the official Marvel Multiverse celebrated the 3 year anniversary of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings by posting an edit of clips from the movie and captioning it:
"‘SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS’ was released 3 years ago today. How much would you rate it out of 10?"
Simu Liu reposted the same and tweeted:
"8.5/10. Decent movie but lead actor is a little too full of himself"
The Atlas actor's effort of roasting himself on social media garnered the attention of fans who participated in the banter. Referring to his role as one of the Ken's in Barbie, a fan tweeted:
"I don't think he was Kenough."
"Heard he was also left Hollywood to pursue the NBA, can’t believe we’re gonna see him next to Lebron next season 🤞" another fan satirically tweeted
"I dunno, I think he's underrated myself." an X user defended the actor
"We need a sequel!" another X user mentioned
Some internet users also took to trolling the actor under the X post. One of the internet users referred to the actor's deleted Reddit thread from 2015, wherein he stated that being a pedophile wasn't biologically different from being gay. The thread generated negative traction once the actor became famous and was deleted:
"More like a little too annoying and homophobic" an internet user asserted
"I watched it just for the lead villain. Dude is a legend. 🫣" another internet user tweeted complimenting Tony Leung over Simu Liu
"There's one thing in this movie that was so untrue. When his mom said, "I'm so proud of you." Asian parents never say that 😭😭." a fan jokingly mentioned
"It's definitely happening": Simu Liu affirms another instalment of the Shang-Chi franchise

"A lot of it is above my pay grade, but it's definitely happening. So just very excited to kind of work on it, and it's going to be amazing. I really can't say anything beyond that,"
