Jamie Foxx, the Academy Award-winning actor and comedian, recently found himself in the spotlight not just for his Netflix special, What Had Happened Was..., but also due to his indirect involvement in controversies surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs.

While Diddy faced a barrage of criminal allegations, including s*xual misconduct and abuse, Foxx’s name was dragged into the mix by conspiracy theories linking his 2023 hospitalization to the former music mogul.

Addressing these rumors in his special, Foxx joked,

“The internet said Puffy was trying to kill me, that’s what the internet was saying. I know what you thinking, ‘Diddy?' " He added, "Hell no, I left them parties early. I was out by 9, something don’t look right. It’s slippery in here."

Foxx also mentioned Combs as he recalled his medical emergency when he suffered a brain bleed and stroke in April 2023.

"Your life doesn’t flash before your face. It was kind of oddly peaceful. I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light. I was in that tunnel, though. It was hot in that tunnel. S---, am I going to the wrong place in this mother------?" he said, adding, "Because I looked at the end of the tunnel, and I thought I saw the devil like, ‘Come on.’ Or is that Puffy? I’m f----ing around.”

Foxx has previously said how parties were more than just social events, they were a masterclass in networking. Foxx explained in a 2018 Forbes interview,

“I used to threw these parties , and I would have people like Diddy, Missy Elliott, and Jay-Z all in the same room.”

In an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2018, Foxx humorously recounted how Diddy once boasted about hosting a $1.5 million party and Foxx said that he organized a similar event for just a few hundred dollars.

"I would have people like Diddy, Missy Elliott, and Jay-Z all in the same room"- Jamie Foxx revealed the inspiration behind his Off Script project

In an interview with Forbes on July 20, 2018, Jamie Foxx opened up about his inspiration for the Off Script project, sharing insights into his legendary house parties and his creative journey.

Reflecting on what inspired the series, Foxx told Forbes in 2018,

“I’ve always had people come to my house and do these incredible, sort of, “off script” interviews without the cameras rolling. I used to throw these parties, and I would have people like Diddy, Missy Elliott, and Jay-Z all in the same room."

He added,

"I pitched this idea to Grey Goose and said I want to interview the guys and girls of today who make me go wow. Together we were able to take it to the next level."

The series features Jamie Foxx in candid conversations with stars like Melissa McCarthy and Denzel Washington.

Denzel Washington is a source of inspiration to Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx’s admiration for Denzel Washington runs deep. When asked about what he would ask Washington if given a chance, Foxx told Forbes that he would ask Washington what he did before becoming an actor.

“Part of the reason I love doing these interviews is because it’s really interesting to hear how people got their start," Foxx said.

Foxx has always considered Washington a major influence on his career, calling him a “legend” and “the most talented actor of our era.” He also mentioned that Washington has a funny, less-known side that comes out when they hang out informally.
