Colson Baker, known professionally and more prominently as Machine Gun Kelly, has been one of the leading figures in the industry over the past few years, with every detail of his personal and professional life being the subject of media attention.

Over a career that contained both music and acting, Machine Gun Kelly has firmly established himself as one of the most renowned in the industry, and this does not come very easily. While most musicians have an affinity to drug abuse, Kelly is more acknowledging of his past consumption habits and even discussed this in a 2020 interview with Dave Franco for Interview Magazine.

While discussing his drug and alcohol use with Dave Franco, the famed musician said:

"I think I watched myself believe that drugs were how you attained a level, or unlocked something in your brain, and I’ve seen the pros and cons of it. Adderall was a huge thing for me for a long time."

He further went on to discuss his use of Adderall and his ultimate realization of what the drugs actually bring in and what they do not.

"I was scared to ever go into a studio if I didn’t have something."- Machine Gun Kelly on the impact drugs had on his profession

As most people already know, drugs have been quite intermixed in the culture of music, especially in the higher strata where artists like Machine Gun Kelly exist. However, it is also something that has the potential to harm immensely, something that the actor and musician acknowledged while talking about drugs to Dave Franco.

MGK revealed that at a point during his usage, he had reached a phase where he could not enter a studio without being on something. After revealing that he used Adderall in abundance, he expanded on how his drug usage increased and how dependent he got on it. He said:

"I went from orally taking it to then snorting it, and then it became something where I was scared to ever go into a studio if I didn’t have something. I wouldn’t even step out unless there was a medicine man who was going to visit me and give me what I needed. And that’s where it becomes a problem."

He went on to acknowledge how the root of this dependency lay in the lack of confidence in himself and his sober self and once he managed to understand that, it was much easier for the musician to be less dependent. He added:

"You’re telling yourself you can’t do this without that, when really it’s in you the whole time. If that pill did that for you, then everyone who’s taken that would just be making albums and writing songs. And so that limited me."

This part of the interview gives a deep insight into both the supposed relationship between music and drugs and Machine Gun Kelly's journey from being heavily dependent on Adderall to being someone who understood his artistic capabilities beyond drugs.

Machine Gun Kelly went over many aspects of his life and the packed year 2020 in this same interview. He had also made multiple mentions of Megan Fox, who he had just started dating at the time.

As per recent reports from multiple sources, the couple have split up, ending a four-year-long relationship.
