Inside Out 2: All easter egg references explained

Inside Out 2 was released on June 14, 2024, and is a sequel to Inside Out released in 2015. It is an animated film directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Pixar Animation Studios.

Inside Out 2 brings the viewers back to Riley Andersen’s mind who is now 13 years old. The earlier part of the movie series had five emotions: joy, sadness, fear, anger, and disgust, but now in the second part, these are joined by four new emotions: envy, embarrassment, ennui, and their leader, anxiety. These new feelings help Riley handle the changes and challenges of becoming a teenager.

The movie follows the ups and downs of growing up. Inside Out 2 got 90% likes on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 7.9 rating by IMDb.

The film synopsis reads:

“Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust have been running a successful operation by all accounts. However, when Anxiety shows up, they aren't sure how to feel.”

Inside Out 2: All easter eggs and references

1) John Ratzenberger cameo

Pixar continues its tradition of having John Ratzenberger, who voiced Fritz the Mind Worker, in Inside Out 2. Fritz humorously calls the original Emotions "jerks" as he misinterprets their tone.

This brief appearance can be a way to recognize Ratzenberger's long journey with Pixar, as he has voiced characters in nearly all their movies.

2) The famous A113

The famous Pixar easter egg, A113 can be seen in almost all Pixar movies. It refers to a classroom at the California Institute of Arts. In Inside Out 2 it shows up in the vault where the original emotions are stuck. It is marked in Roman numerals (ACXIII), sticking to Pixar's habit of hiding this small tribute in creative ways.


3) A tribute to Pixar

Riley's hockey jersey number, 28, hints at Inside Out 2 being Pixar's 28th movie. This smart reference honors the studio's deep history and ongoing success, celebrating its journey from its first film, Toy Story, to today.

4) Riley's tight rainbow shirt

5) Bing Bong's paper figure

Joy has a paper figure of Bing Bong who is Riley's imaginary friend and was forgotten on her shelf. This thoughtful reminder honors Bing Bong's sacrifice and the strong feelings he brought to both Riley and the viewers in the first film.

8) 4*Town still popular

9) A funny onward joke

11) Video game character in the movie

Fear is holding a coffee cup with the Dream Productions logo which is the movie studio in Riley's mind that makes her dreams. This reminds us of the first movie and makes the sequel feel connected and familiar.


13) Famous puppeteers make special appearances

The voices of Subconscious Guards in Inside Out 2 are played by famous puppeteers Frank Oz and Dave Goelz. Their funny conversation about hats is a way to remember their important work in children's shows.
