Coraline: Plot
The film blends elements from the horror and dark fantasy genres. The titular character and her parents move from Pontiac, Michigan, to their new home in Ashland, Oregon. Her parents remain busy with their work all day, and she keeps exploring parts of their new home.
During one such exploration session, she finds a mysterious door leading to the Other World. Initially, the Other World, containing the doppelgangers from her Real World, amuses Coraline. But soon, the sinister sides of this mysterious place dawn upon her.
Beldam, the Other Mother residing in the Other World, turns out to be an evil person who plans to keep Coraline trapped in the place forever. The movie shows at length how she uses the help of the other inmates and the cat to overpower and beat the scheming Beldam.
Getting out of the Other World alone is not enough. She ensures it is sealed forever, and everybody hitherto trapped inside can return to the Real World.
