Luigi Mangione, the alleged shooter of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, will be the subject of multiple documentaries. Shortly after Mangione was arrested on December 9 for allegedly killing Thompson outside the Hilton hotel in downtown Manhattan on December 4, the race to produce true crime documentaries about him started.
So far, there are reports of three documentaries on Luigi Mangione that are currently in the works. One is being produced by Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney's Jigsaw Productions and Anonymous Content, while another is being created by Emmy-nominated Amanda Knox director Stephen Robert Morse. Additionally, Investigation Discovery is set to produce a special hosted by Dan Abrams about the shooter of the UnitedHealthcare CEO.
Mangione is facing firearm charges in Pennsylvania, where he was arrested at a McDonald's, and a second-degree murder charge in New York. The 26-year-old suspect reportedly used a ghost gun to kill Thompson outside his hotel. Investigators revealed that shell casings found at the crime scene were inscribed with words like "deny," "defend," and "depose."
When Mangione was arrested, cops reportedly found multiple fake IDs, cash, the alleged murder weapon, several bullets, and a "manifesto." As reported by the New York Post on December 9, the "manifesto" indicated his hatred for the healthcare community and described Thompson's killing as a "symbolic takedown" of the "parasitic" healthcare industry.
