Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the fourth and latest installment in the popular Beverly Hills Cop film series, was released on Netflix on July 3, 2024. The film features Eddie Murphy returning to his iconic role of the cop as Axel Foley.
The official synopsis of the film reads:
"Forty years after his unforgettable first case in Beverly Hills, Detroit cop Axel Foley returns to do what he does best: solve crimes and cause chaos."
One of the key plot points in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is the estranged relationship between Axel Foley and his daughter Jane Saunders (played by Taylour Paige). However, there is a minor role in the film that has particularly amused fans of the franchise.
In one crucial scene, Axel is arrested by two female officers. Bria Murphy, Eddie Murphy's real-life daughter, plays one of these officers. It is a fun Murphy family in-joke that Bria's character arrests her father's character for causing chaos on the road.

Almost halfway into the film, Axel returns to Beverly Hills and, to his alarm, finds his friend Rosewood missing. He also sees a group of people searching around Rosewood's office. Once they spot Axel, a chase ensues between him and the group.
During this chase, Axel crashes on Rodeo Drive. Two female officers approach him and arrest him. As Foley remarks that this is quite embarrassing, one of the officers, played by Eddie's daughter Bria Murphey, says, "You should have thought about that before your little joy ride."
Eddie then delivers an unscripted, improvised joke, stating that the officers 'are the LEGO cops' since their car is quite small. Director Mark Molloy revealed to Business Insider that Eddie once told him about his daughter's interest in being involved in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. It turns out she landed the part that arrests her real-life father.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F: Plot and cast
In Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the legendary cop Axel Foley returns decades after his last mission in the third installment of the series, Beverly Hills Cop III (1994). In this film, he returns to Beverly Hills because his daughter's life is at risk.
Following his divorce, Foley's relationship with his daughter, Jane, became estranged. Jane now works as a criminal defense attorney in Beverly Hills and is currently representing a client, which has led to threats from a cartel.
Billy Rosewood, Foley's old friend, senses the danger Jane's life is in and calls Foley back to Beverly Hills. Here, Foley teams up with Detective Bobby Abbott, Jane's ex-boyfriend, and the duo uncovers corruption within the police department. In the process, the relationship between Jane and Foley improves as they spend some time together.
In the film's climax, Jane is kidnapped by corrupt officers from the narcotics department. These officers have a connection with the cartel that threatened Jane. Foley emerges as the heroic father as he gets his daughter out of the situation into safety.
The cast includes Eddie Murphy (Axel Foley), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Detective Bobby Abbott), Taylour Paige (Jane Saunders), Judge Reinhold (Billy Rosewood), and John Ashton (Chief John Taggart), among others.
Kevin Bacon plays Captain Cade Grant, the corrupt police captain in the Beverly Hills Police Department who has connections with the cartel. Bria Murphy, who appears in a minor role in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, previously appeared in Daddy Day Care (2003), The Perfect Match (2016), and others.
