In the lead-up to the release of Hallmark Channel's sports romance film, Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, there was considerable speculation that the narrative, which focuses significantly on the Kansas City Chiefs football team, would depict the romantic involvement of two high-profile individuals. These individuals are Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League, and the celebrated singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift.
These speculations heightened even more when it was revealed that Donna Kelce, Travis Kelce's mother was also to be a part of Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story in an undisclosed role.
However, since the movie's airing on November 30, 2024, audiences have found that the film is not about Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift and their love story.
Alana and Derrick's (the main protagonists portrayed by Hunter King and Tyler Haynes, respectively) story is very different from that of the two aforementioned famous personalities.
In the film, while Alana along with her family is preparing to win the Fan of the Year Award for being dedicated fans of the Kansas City Chiefs for years, Derrick Director of Fan Engagement for the team is responsible for ensuring Alana and his family's win.
Hallmark Channel's Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story is not about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift
Many Tayvis, Swelce, or Traylor fans who were looking forward to seeing Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's romance come to life in Hallmark Channel's Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story will be disappointed to know that the movie is not about them.
While the Kansas City Chiefs, of which Kelce is a part, play a significant role in the film's narrative, neither the characters nor the storyline reflects their real lives.
Hallmark Channel's Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story centres on the relationship between Alana Hingman and Derrick Taylor, who are connected by their association with the Kansas City Chiefs football team.
As mentioned earlier, Alana, portrayed by King, is an avid supporter of the team, and she is excited about the possibility of winning an award for them.
On the other hand, Derrick, portrayed by Hynes, is representing the team in the competition and is committed to assisting Alana in winning the award. The official synopsis for the movie also highlights the same. It reads:
"Alana Higman is sure that her family’s lifelong history as Kansas City Chiefs superfans makes them a frontrunner to win the team’s “Fan of the Year” contest. Derrick, Director of Fan Engagement, is tasked with evaluating how Alana and her family stack up against the other two finalists."
It continues by highlighting the repercussions of their meeting which includes them developing feelings for one another as well as specific obstacles that prevent them from becoming one. It reads:
"As the pair spends time together, it’s clear there’s a spark between them but when her grandfather’s vintage Chiefs good-luck winter hat goes missing, Alana begins to doubt everything she believed about fate, destiny and even questions her future with Derrick – unless, that is, a little Christmas magic can throw a Hail Mary."
Hunter King and Tyler Hynes say there are several Tayvis easter eggs in Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story
During the promotions for Hallmark Channels' Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, actors Hunter King and Tyler Hynes were in conversation with Life & Style magazine. They mentioned that although the film was not about Kelce or Swift, there were several easter eggs which were scattered all over the film.
King mentioned that fans of the couple will be particularly excited about the last name of Hynes' character, whose full name in the film is Derrick Taylor. Hynes, on the other hand, spoke about Swift and Kelce's relationship's cultural impact on the masses, which will allow people who watch the movie to enjoy it in some manner.
