Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds, released in theatres on July 26, 2024. The movie also stars Hugh Jackman, who returned as the iconic character for the first time since Logan's release in 2017, as the movie saw his clawed mutant join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Bringing these iconic characters to the MCU for the first time, Deadpool & Wolverine saw the two Marvel characters go on a multiversal journey to save their universes. Being sent to the Void by the TVA, they encounter Cassandra Nova, who is their only shot at getting back to their world.
With Hugh Jackman returning to play Logan in the film after announcing his retirement in 2017, this means the actor has now portrayed the character for more than 20 years. But is he the only actor who has played the Marvel superhero in live-action?
While many fans might have believed that, the recent release actually saw Henry Cavill make a cameo as the iconic X-Men character too. However, he is the third actor to portray the character, because believe it or not, a young Troye Sivan also portrayed a young Logan in X-Men: Origins - Wolverine.
Henry Cavill and Troye Sivan among the two other actors to have portrayed Wolverine
Troye Sivan
Troye Sivan was the only other actor to have portrayed Logan before Henry Cavill's cameo. The actor starred as a young James Howlett in X-Men: Origins - Wolverine. He only has one scene at the start of the film that explains his origins and how his mutation gets activated.
The opening of the film takes place in 1845 when a young James Howlett lies sick in his bed. Witnessing his groundskeeper killing his "father", James has his mutation activated and his claws pop out for the first time.
Killing the groundskeeper, James realizes that he was his actual father, and then he escapes from his house with his half-brother Victor Creed.
Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill became the third actor ever to portray the clawed mutant in live-action.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade goes timeline-hopping through different universes in search of a Logan. Coming across different variants of the character (all played by Hugh Jackman), he finally comes across one that he thinks might be worth bringing to his universe.
This variant happens to be played by none other than previous Superman actor Henry Cavill. In the scene, he can be seen fixing a bike and is approached by Deadpool who is shocked to see him.
However, Cavill's Logan isn't having Wade's talkative self and he knocks him out of his timeline. Even though he is on-screen for a short time, Cavill truly makes an impression as the character.
Henry Cavill opens up about starring in Deadpool & Wolverine
Almost two weeks after the film's release, Henry Cavill finally opened up about starring as Logan. Taking to his Instagram, the actor posted a photo of him in character. He wrote in the caption:
"To be safe, I shaved the moustache off for this one. Just the moustache."
This was a supposed dig to his time working on Justice League. During the time he wasn't allowed to shave off his mustache for the film's reshoots as he was shooting Mision: Impossible 6 at the same time as well.
This led to Cavill's face having to be digitally altered for the DC release, and it became a meme among the fandom.
You can watch Deadpool & Wolverine in cinemas right now.
