Is the movie releasing in theaters? Where to watch Kinds of Kindness, explored

After its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, Kinds of Kindness is coming to theaters on June 21, 2024. Distributed by Disney and 20th Century's Searchlight Pictures, the movie has been given a limited theatrical release before it makes its way to a digital release.

As of now no streaming release date has not been confirmed, but the movie is expected to come to Hulu sometime later this year. Yorgos Lanthimos's previous movie debuted on Hulu 90 days after making its debut in theaters. If that is anything to go by, Kinds of Kindness could be coming on Hulu in September 2024.

However, before that, the movie will become available digitally to watch at home. Disney and 20th Century will make the film available on all major PVOD services soon after its theatrical debut. Fans who are waiting to watch the movie at home can expect the movie to be released digitally in August 2023.

What is the movie about?

Kinds of Kindness is an anthology series consisting of three stories. The official synopsis of the movie reads:

"KINDS OF KINDNESS is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader."

The movie follows three individual stories which are intertwined with one another. The three stories are titled The Death of R.M.F., R.M.F. Is Flying, and R.M.F. Eats a Sandwich. Commenting on the anthology, Lanthimos has revealed some key details about what to expect:

“It’s a contemporary film, set in the US – three different stories, with four or five actors who play one part in each story, so they all play three different parts. It was almost like making three films, really."

Talking about how the film is structured and how the three stories connect, he said:

"It’s like three short stories, basically. So just by its nature there’s not so much information for the characters or their backstory. Apart from the fact that I like that anyway, to throw people into a world, into certain situations, and to try and figure that out, I find it more engaging.”
