Lana Condor's mother, Mary Carol, has recently passed away, and the actress took to her Instagram page on July 28, 2024, to share a tribute post. The YouTuber was four months old when she was adopted by Mary and her husband, Bob. People magazine states that apart from Lana, Mary and Bob adopted a son named Artie from the same orphanage where the duo spent their early days.
Lana Condor added an old photo of her and Mary on her latest social media post. She started by writing:
"My beautiful beautiful mama, I'm laying here thinking about everything I want to say to you, how to put into words the sheer devastation of losing you and how it has carved me out and left me lost."
Lana Condor continued praising her mother, saying that it was hard for her to believe she was gone, and she still kept thinking that Mary would call her again. Condor continued by saying that Mary taught her about empathy and how to love everyone. Furthermore, the post reads:
"You showed me what unconditional kindness and compassion is, and that both should always be our first choice. That seeing the world thru humor filled lenses is not only one of our best survival techniques, but also a brave choice, that can improve our daily lives exponentially."
Lana Condor also thanked Mary for bringing a lot of "joy and warmth" to the entire family, adding that things will be different for all of them from now onwards. The actress said that although it has been a few days since her mother's demise, she still misses her and ended by stating:
"I used to say "I love you more than you could possibly ever know," I hope now, wherever you are, that you know. You found me first, and I pray with everything that I am, that you'll find me again. I love you endlessly. Love, Lanzie."
Lana Condor had previously spoken about her adoption to different outlets
As mentioned, Lana Condor was an adopted child of her parents. Although detailed information about her father, Bob, remains unknown, her mother, Mary, was a journalist. While speaking to Allure magazine last year, Condor revealed that although her brother was Asian, she was raised in a family that was not Asian. She said adoption left a different impact on her life and added:
"The products that work for [my mom] don't work for me. Ways of application for her don't work for me because I am Vietnamese and she's Irish …. We have different faces, different features."
In another interview with People magazine in 2021, the 27-year-old revealed more details about her early days. Lana recalled the time she was in Vietnam in 2019 with Michelle Obama as part of promoting education for girls. She said that she visited the manager of the orphanage from where she was adopted.
A similar situation was used in the Netflix film To All the Boys: Always and Forever, where Lana Condor played the lead. She credited the project for helping her meet people with an Asian-American background. She addressed the same by saying:
"The people that come up to me, they share with me their experience in high school and about how they felt seen and represented in the movies. My identity has deeply been enriched because of these experiences. I feel more connected to my community than ever before."
Lana Condor's character in X-Men: Apocalypse was also an Asian, and she told People magazine that after being cast in the film, she realized representation would play an important role in her life. She stated that she wanted people to see her and did not want anyone to feel alone.
Also known as Lana Therese Condor, she was last seen in the third season of Abbott Elementary. She has two more films in her upcoming lineup, including Worth the Wait and Valiant One. Condor also won an award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards and has been nominated twice at the Teen Choice Awards.
