Scream 7 has added actress Mckenna Grace as its latest cast member, as reported by Deadline on December 12, 2024. As of this writing, details about her role and character's name are kept under wraps.

The 18-year-old star has worked in films like I, Tonya, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Frankenstein, etc. On television, she has appeared in Young Sheldon, Fuller House, The Handmaid's Tale, The Young and the Restless, and A Friend of the Family.

With her latest role, Mckenna Grace will be a part of the Scream franchise that has earned over $900 million collectively at the box office. The popular horror film series comprises six films and began with the release of Scream on December 20, 1996.

It became a blockbuster hit, earning $173 million at the box office and held the title of the world's highest-grossing slasher film until the release of Halloween in 2018.

Furthermore, Wes Craven directed the first four movies, while Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett took over the reins for the fifth and sixth films in the franchise.

Everything to know about the cast and crew of Scream 7

Joining Mckenna Grace in Scream 7 is Neve Campbell, who has played Sidney Prescott in the first five films of the franchise. Neve stepped away from Scream VI due to disagreements over her salary.

In the fifth Scream movie, Sidney was revealed to have three kids with detective Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey), but they have not appeared on-screen as of yet.

It's possible that Mckenna will play one of Sidney's daughters, however, it needs to be seen if that is indeed the case. Additionally, Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, and Asa Germann have also been roped in for the film.

Guy Busick serves as the screenwriter of Scream 7. He co-wrote the previous two films, 2022's Scream (fifth film in the franchise) and its sequel Scream VI, along with James Vanderbilt.

Furthermore, the movie will be directed by Kevin Williamson, who has writing credits for Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4. This will be his second time directing after the 1999 teen comedy Teaching Mrs. Tingle, 25 years ago.

Scream 7 reportedly began filming in Atlanta in December 2024.

The horror film is produced by James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein and is slated to release on February 27, 2026.

Scream 7 has undergone several changes since last year. Initially, it was poised to star Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who played half-sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter respectively in Scream (2022) and Scream VI.

However, Barrera was dropped from the film in November 2023 after seemingly accusing Israel of "genocide and ethnic cleansing" during the on-going war in Gaza.

Not long after, Ortega also left the project citing scheduling conflicts with the second season of the Gothic series, Wednesday. Moreover, Christopher Landon was initially set to direct the latest horror installment, but he exited the project in December 2023.

As per the latest reports by Variety from September 2024, Courteney Cox has not signed on to appear in Scream 7. Cox, who played the reporter Gale Weathers, is the only cast member to appear in all films of the franchise.

So, it's very likely that she will reprise her role in the upcoming film as well.
