In addition to achieving great success with both audiences and critics since its release, recent updates indicate that a sequel to The Wild Robot is currently in production, much to the delight of its fans.
Deadline confirmed this information through an article published on October 12, 2024. The article states that Chris Sanders, the filmmaker of The Wild Robot, announced on the same date of publishing the piece to Deadline Contenders that discussions for a sequel to the film were underway and that it was in the development phase at DreamWorks Animation.

The Wild Robot is getting a sequel and it is currently in development
As previously mentioned, Deadline implied in its article from October 12, 2024, that a sequel to the 2024 American animated science fiction survival film, The Wild Robot, is currently in the works.
While specific details about the release date have not been disclosed, it has been confirmed that the film is currently being developed. This confirmation comes directly from Chris Sanders, the writer and director of the original film who spoke to to the publication on the day the article was published.
About the film
Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Peter Brown, The Wild Robot was written and directed by Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon). It was produced by Jeff Herman.
Some of the actors who lent their voices to characters featured in the movie included Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, and Catherine O'Hara.
The movie's official synopsis reads:
"The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot- ROZZUM unit 7134, "Roz" for short- that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling."

Lupita Nyong'o 's ROZZUM unit 7134 ("Roz") led the voice cast for the film who also briefly voiced the character of ROZZUM unit 6262 ("Rummage"). Her role in the film was closely supported by Pedro Pascal who lent his voice to Fink's character, a mischievous and resourceful red fox who was one of the first people Roz became friends with, in the film.

- Catherine O'Hara as Pinktail, an opossum from Virginia
- Bill Nighy as Longneck, an old Canada goose

- Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, a robot that is sent to get back Roz
- Matt Berry as Paddler, a beaver
- Ving Rhames as Thunderbolt, a peregrine, aka duck hawk
The audience's reception towards the film
The Wild Robot has been equally well received by the audiences and the critics. Having been released on September 27, 2024, in the United States and spent 2 weeks at the box office, the film continues to impress everyone.
As of writing this article, the film holds an exceptional rating of 98 per cent from both the critics and the audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. On Metacritic, the film holds a Metascore of 85 out of 100 and a User Score of 8.1 out of 10, making it a must-watch according to the reviewing platform.
