Scream 7 is the upcoming installment of the iconic horror franchise that started with the Wes Craven-directed 1996 movie Scream. The next film will be directed by Kevin Willaimson, with a screenplay written by Guy Busick.
The Scream franchise is known for weaving together a mysterious plot surrounding the Ghostface killer. The first film starring David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, and Drew Barrymore has become a major part of popular culture.
In his appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in October 2024, Matthew Lilliard said that his character Stu Macher is "definitely alive."
Scream 7 will mark the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, the lead character in the first film. Apart from Campbell, the cast also includes Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, Isabel May, Celeste O'Connor, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp.
Matthew Lillard thinks Stu Macher is alive
With the announcement of another movie in the Scream film series, fans are already eager for more information about the beloved slasher franchise. Matthew Lillard, who played Stu Macher in the first film, appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show in October 2024 and said that he thinks his character is "definitely alive."
"Stu is definitely alive, right? My character Stu is definitely alive," the actor said.
Stu Macher was the main antagonist in Scream, and at the end of the film, his character was seemingly killed and has not been seen in any of the sequels. Upon being asked by Drew Barrymore if Stu would come back in another Scream movie, Lilliard replied:
"That would be fun. I would love it. If it made sense, if it made sense for the franchise. If Kevin liked it, then sure."
Earlier, during an interview with Gamespot during the New York ComicCon, Lillard said that he was not in Scream 7. But he also said that even if he was, he would reveal it until the day it came out. The actor's cryptic messages are making fans more eager for the next movie in the franchise.
About Scream 7
Scream 7 is scheduled to be released on February 27, 2026. The film was announced around the time the last film came out; however, the project has undergone several creative retoolings since then.
