The Substance, a body horror film by Coralie Fargeat, premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, winning Best Screenplay. It was released in U.S. theaters on September 20, 2024.

The film follows Elisabeth Sparkle, a celebrity fired from her job for being old. To regain her status and glamor, Elizabeth buys a black-market drug that can create a much younger version of herself. The film is set to be re-released in the theatres on January 17, 2025. It stars Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and Dennis Quaid in prominent roles.

According to IndieWire, Coralie Fargeat's award-winning feature will be re-released in around 350 theatres across the United States from January 17, 2025. The film, produced by Fargeat, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner, and distributed by Mubi, was the company's biggest release to date.

Elizabeth Sparkle, a fading celebrity takes the extreme step of injecting herself with a black market drug to turn herself into a younger version. The film is available for streaming on Mubi and Amazon Prime Video. Here's how the platform describes the film:

"Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself? You. Only better in every way. You should try this new product, The Substance. IT CHANGED MY LIFE."
